Acts 14:11-19

11And when the crowds saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in Lycaonian, aβ€œThe gods have come down to us in the likeness of men!” 12Barnabas they called bZeus, and Paul, Hermes, because he was the chief speaker. 13And the priest of cZeus, whose temple was at the entrance to the city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates and dwanted to offer sacrifice with the crowds. 14But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of it, they etore their garments and rushed out into the crowd, crying out, 15β€œMen, fwhy are you doing these things? We also are men, gof like nature with you, and we bring you good news, that hyou should turn from these ivain things to ja living God, kwho made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all that is in them. 16In past generations he lallowed all the nations mto walk in their own ways. 17Yet nhe did not leave himself without witness, for he odid good by pgiving you rains from heaven and qfruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with rfood and sgladness.” 18Even with these words they scarcely restrained the people from offering sacrifice to them.
