Acts 2:4-11

4And they were all afilled with the Holy Spirit and began bto speak in other tongues cas the Spirit gave them utterance.

5Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. 6And dat this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language. 7And ethey were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking fGalileans? 8And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? 9Parthians and gMedes and hElamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, 11both Jews and iproselytes, Cretans and Arabians—we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.”

Acts 2:33

33 jBeing therefore kexalted at the right hand of God, and having received from lthe Father mthe promise of the Holy Spirit, nhe has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing.

Acts 10:46

46For they were hearing them ospeaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter declared,

Acts 19:6

6And pwhen Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and qthey began speaking in tongues and rprophesying.

1 Corinthians 12:10

10to another sthe working of miracles, to another tprophecy, to another uthe ability to distinguish between spirits, to another vvarious kinds of tongues, to another wthe interpretation of tongues.

1 Corinthians 12:28

28And xGod has appointed in the church first yapostles, second zprophets, third teachers, then aamiracles, then abgifts of healing, achelping, adadministrating, and aevarious kinds of tongues.

1 Corinthians 12:30

30Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?

1 Corinthians 14:5-26

5Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but afeven more to prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be built up.

6Now, brothers,
Or  brothers and sisters; also verses 20, 26, 39
if I come to you speaking in tongues, how will I benefit you unless I bring you some ahrevelation or knowledge or prophecy or aiteaching?
7If even lifeless instruments, such as the flute or the harp, do not give distinct notes, how will anyone know what is played? 8And ajif the bugle gives an indistinct sound, who will get ready for battle? 9So with yourselves, if with your tongue you utter speech that is not intelligible, how will anyone know what is said? For you will be akspeaking into the air. 10There are doubtless many different languages in the world, and none is without meaning, 11but if I do not know the meaning of the language, I will be ala foreigner to the speaker and the speaker a foreigner to me. 12So with yourselves, since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, strive to excel in building up the church.

13Therefore, one who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret. 14For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my mind is unfruitful. 15What am I to do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind also; amI will sing praise with my spirit, but I will ansing with my mind also. 16Otherwise, if you give thanks with your spirit, how can anyone in the position of an outsider
Or  of him that is without gifts
say apAmento aqyour thanksgiving when he does not know what you are saying?
17For you may be giving thanks well enough, but the other person is not being built up. 18I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. 19Nevertheless, in church I would rather speak five words with my mind in order to instruct others, than ten thousand words in a tongue.

20Brothers, ardo not be children in your thinking. asBe infants in evil, but in your thinking be atmature. 21 auIn the Law it is written, avBy people of strange tongues and by the lips of foreigners will I speak to this people, and even then they will not listen to me, says the Lord.” 22Thus tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is a sign
Greek lacks  a sign
not for unbelievers but for believers.
23If, therefore, the whole church comes together and all speak in tongues, and outsiders or unbelievers enter, axwill they not say that you are out of your minds? 24But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or outsider enters, he is convicted by all, he is called to account by all, 25 aythe secrets of his heart are disclosed, and so, azfalling on his face, he will worship God and badeclare that God is really among you.

Orderly Worship

26What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has bba hymn, bca lesson, bda revelation, bea tongue, or bfan interpretation. bgLet all things be done for building up.
