Amos 1:11-12

11Thus says the Lord:

a“For three transgressions of bEdom,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
cbecause he pursued his brother with the sword
dand cast off all pity,
eand his anger tore perpetually,
fand he kept his wrath forever.
12So I will send a fire upon gTeman,
and it shall devour the strongholds of hBozrah.”

Edom Will Be Humbled

Thus says the Lord God iconcerning Edom:
jWe have heard a report from the Lord,
and a messenger has been sent among the nations:
Rise up! Let us rise against her for battle!”
2Behold, I will make you small among the nations;
you shall be utterly despised.
Or  Behold, I have made you small among the nations; you are utterly despised

3 lThe pride of your heart has deceived you,
you who live in the clefts of the rock,
Or Sela

in your lofty dwelling,
nwho say in your heart,
Who will bring me down to the ground?”
4Though you soar aloft like the eagle,
though your nest is set among the stars,
from there I will bring you down,

declares the Lord.
5 If othieves came to you,
if plunderers came by night
how you have been destroyed!—
would they not steal only enough for themselves?
If pgrape gatherers came to you,
would they not leave gleanings?
6 qHow Esau has been pillaged,
his treasures sought out!
7All your allies have driven you to your border;
those at peace with you have deceived you;
they have prevailed against you;
rthose who eat your bread
Hebrew lacks  those who eat
have set a trap beneath you—
tyou have
Hebrew he has
no understanding.
8 vWill I not on that day, declares the Lord,
destroy the wise men out of Edom,
and understanding out of wMount Esau?
9And your mighty men shall be dismayed, xO Teman,
so that every man from yMount Esau will be cut off by slaughter.

Edom’s Violence Against Jacob

10 zBecause of the violence done to your brother Jacob,
shame shall cover you,
aaand you shall be cut off forever.
11 abOn the day that you stood aloof,
acon the day that strangers carried off his wealth
and foreigners entered his gates
adand cast lots for Jerusalem,
you were like one of them.
12 aeBut do not gloat over the day of your brother
in the day of his misfortune;
afdo not rejoice over the people of Judah
in the day of their ruin;
agdo not boast
Hebrew  do not enlarge your mouth

in the day of distress.
13 aiDo not enter the gate of my people
in the day of their calamity;
ajdo not gloat over his disaster
in the day of his calamity;
akdo not loot his wealth
in the day of his calamity.
14 alDo not stand at the crossroads
to cut off his fugitives;
do not hand over his survivors
in the day of distress.

The Day of the Lord Is Near

15 For amthe day of the Lord is near upon all the nations.
anAs you have done, it shall be done to you;
your deeds shall return on your own head.
16 aoFor as you have drunk on apmy holy mountain,
so all the nations shall drink continually;
they shall drink and swallow,
and shall be as though they had never been.

Malachi 1:2-5

The Lord’s Love for Israel

2 aq“I have loved you,” says the Lord. arBut you say, “How have you loved us?” “Is not Esau asJacob’s brother?” declares the Lord. “Yet atI have loved Jacob 3but Esau I have hated. auI have laid waste his hill country and left his heritage to jackals of the desert.” 4If Edom says, “We are shattered but we will rebuild the ruins,” the Lord of hosts says, “They may build, but I will tear down, and they will be called ‘the wicked country,’ and ‘the people with whom the Lord is angry forever.’” 5 avYour own eyes shall see this, and you shall say, “Great is the Lord beyond the border of Israel!”

Romans 9:10-13

10And not only so, but awalso when Rebekah had conceived children by one man, our forefather Isaac, 11though they were not yet born and had done nothing either good or bad—in order that God’s purpose of election might continue, not because of works but because of axhim who calls 12she was told, ay“The older will serve the younger.” 13As it is written, azJacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”
