Amos 7:7-13

7 aThis is what he showed me: behold, the Lord was standing beside a wall built with ba plumb line, with a plumb line in his hand. 8And the Lord said to me, cAmos, what do you see?” And I said, “A plumb line.” Then the Lord said,

Behold, I am setting da plumb line
in the midst of my people Israel;
eI will never again pass by them;
9 fthe high places of Isaac shall be made desolate,
and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste,
and I will rise against gthe house of Jeroboam with the sword.”

Amos Accused

10Then Amaziah hthe priest of Bethel sent to iJeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has jconspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words. 11For thus Amos has said,

“‘Jeroboam shall die by the sword,
and kIsrael must go into exile
away from his land.’”
12And Amaziah said to Amos, l“O seer, go, flee away mto the land of Judah, and neat bread there, and prophesy there, 13but onever again prophesy at Bethel, for pit is the king’s sanctuary, and it is a temple of the kingdom.”

Malachi 3:5

5“Then I will draw near to you for judgment. I will be qa swift witness against the sorcerers, against the adulterers, against those who swear falsely, against those rwho oppress the hired worker in his wages, sthe widow and the fatherless, against those who thrust aside the sojourner, and do not fear me, says the Lord of hosts.

Luke 11:39-54

39And the Lord said to him, tNow you Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside you are full of ugreed and wickedness. 40 vYou fools! wDid not he who made the outside make the inside also? 41But xgive as alms those things that are within, and behold, yeverything is clean for you.

42 zBut woe to you Pharisees! For aayou tithe mint and rue and every herb, and neglect abjustice and acthe love of God. adThese you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. 43Woe to you Pharisees! For aeyou love the best seat in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces. 44Woe to you! afFor you are like unmarked graves, and people walk over them without knowing it.”

45One of agthe lawyers answered him, “Teacher, in saying these things you insult us also.” 46And he said, Woe to you ahlawyers also! For aiyou load people with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers. 47 ajWoe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets whom your fathers killed. 48 akSo you are witnesses and you alconsent to the deeds of amyour fathers, for they killed them, and you build their tombs. 49Therefore also anthe Wisdom of God said, ao‘I will send them approphets and apostles, aqsome of whom they will arkill and persecute,’ 50so that asthe blood of all the prophets, shed atfrom the foundation of the world, may be aucharged against this generation, 51from the blood of avAbel to the blood of awZechariah, who perished between axthe altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, it will be ayrequired of this generation. 52Woe to you azlawyers! baFor you have taken away the key of bbknowledge. You bcdid not enter yourselves, and you hindered those who were entering.”

53As he went away from there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press him hard and to provoke him to speak about many things, 54 bdlying in wait for him, beto catch him in something he might say.

Acts 5:28-33

28saying, bf“We strictly charged you not to teach in this name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you bgintend to bring this man’s blood upon us.” 29But Peter and the apostles answered, bh“We must obey God rather than men. 30 biThe God of our fathers bjraised Jesus, bkwhom you killed by hanging him on bla tree. 31God exalted bmhim at his right hand as bnLeader and boSavior, bpto give bqrepentance to Israel and brforgiveness of sins. 32And bswe are witnesses to these things, and btso is the Holy Spirit, buwhom God has given to those who obey him.”

33When they heard this, they bvwere enraged and wanted to kill them.

Acts 7:51-54

51 bw“You stiff-necked people, bxuncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. byAs your fathers did, so do you. 52 bzWhich of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of cathe Righteous One, cbwhom you have now betrayed and murdered, 53you who received the law ccas delivered by angels and cddid not keep it.”

The Stoning of Stephen

54Now when they heard these things cethey were enraged, and they cfground their teeth at him.
