28Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that awe may present everyone bmature in Christ.

1 Thessalonians 4:1-2

A Life Pleasing to God

1Finally, then, brothers,
Or  brothers and sisters; also verses 10, 13
we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus, that as you dreceived from us ehow you ought to walk and fto please God, just as you are doing, that you gdo so more and more.
2For hyou know what instructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus.

2 Thessalonians 3:6-12

Warning Against Idleness

6Now we command you, brothers, iin the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, jthat you keep away from any kbrother lwho is walking in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us. 7For you yourselves know mhow you ought to imitate us, because nwe were not idle when we were with you, 8nor did we eat anyone’s bread without paying for it, but owith toil and labor we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you. 9It was pnot because we do not have that right, but to give you in ourselves qan example to imitate. 10For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: rIf anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. 11For we hear that some among you swalk in idleness, not busy at work, but tbusybodies. 12Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living.
Greek to eat their own bread

1 Timothy 6:1-4

1 vLet all who are under a yoke as bondservants
Or slaves (for the contextual rendering of the Greek word doulos, see Preface)
regard their own masters as worthy of all honor, xso that the name of God and the teaching may not be reviled.
2Those who have believing masters must not be disrespectful on the ground that they are ybrothers; rather they must serve all the better since those who benefit by their good service are believers and beloved.

False Teachers and True Contentment

zTeach and urge these things.
3If anyone aateaches a different doctrine and does not agree with abthe sound
Or healthy
words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching adthat accords with godliness,
4 aehe is puffed up with conceit and afunderstands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for agcontroversy and for ahquarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions,

Titus 2:1-10

Teach Sound Doctrine

1But as for you, teach what accords with aisound
Or healthy; also verses 2, 8
doctrine.
2Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, aksound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness. 3 alOlder women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, amnot slanderers anor slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, 4and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, 5to be self-controlled, aopure, apworking at home, kind, and aqsubmissive to their own husbands, arthat the word of God may not be reviled. 6Likewise, urge asthe younger men to be self-controlled. 7Show yourself in all respects to be ata model of good works, and in your teaching aushow integrity, avdignity, 8and awsound speech that cannot be condemned, axso that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us. 9 ayBondservants
Or Slaves (for the contextual rendering of the Greek word doulos, see Preface)
are to be submissive to their own masters bain everything; they are to be well-pleasing, not argumentative,
10not pilfering, bbbut showing all good faith, bcso that in everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior.

1 Peter 2:10-19

10 bdOnce you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

11Beloved, I urge you beas sojourners and exiles bfto abstain from the passions of the flesh, bgwhich wage war against your soul. 12 bhKeep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, bithey may see your good deeds and glorify God on bjthe day of visitation.

Submission to Authority

13 bkBe subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution,
Or  every institution ordained for people
whether it be to the emperor
Or king; also verse 17
as supreme,
14or to governors as sent by him bnto punish those who do evil and boto praise those who do good. 15For this is the will of God, bpthat by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. 16 bqLive as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but brliving as servants
Greek bondservants
of God.
17 btHonor everyone. buLove the brotherhood. bvFear God. Honor the emperor.

18 bwServants, be subject to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the unjust. 19For this is a gracious thing, when, bxmindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly.
