Deuteronomy 10:12-13

Circumcise Your Heart

12“And now, Israel, awhat does the Lord your God require of you, but bto fear the Lord your God, cto walk in all his ways, dto love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, 13and eto keep the commandments and statutes of the Lord, which I am commanding you today ffor your good?

1 Samuel 15:22

22And Samuel said,

g“Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices,
as in obeying the voice of the Lord?
Behold, hto obey is better than sacrifice,
and to listen than the fat of rams.

Proverbs 21:3

3 iTo do righteousness and justice
is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.

Isaiah 1:10-17

10 Hear the word of the Lord,
you rulers of j, kSodom!
Give ear to the teaching
Or law
of our God,
you people of mGomorrah!
11 nWhat to me is the multitude of your sacrifices?
says the Lord;
I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams
and the fat of well-fed beasts;
I do not delight in the blood of bulls,
or of lambs, or of goats.
12 “When you come to oappear before me,
who has required of you
this trampling of my courts?
13Bring no more vain offerings;
incense is an abomination to me.
pNew moon and Sabbath and the qcalling of convocations
I cannot endure riniquity and ssolemn assembly.
14Your tnew moons and your appointed feasts
my soul hates;
they have become a burden to me;
I am weary of bearing them.
15When you uspread out your hands,
I will hide my eyes from you;
veven though you make many prayers,
I will not listen;
wyour hands are full of blood.
16 xWash yourselves; make yourselves clean;
remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes;
ycease to do evil,
17learn to do good;
zseek justice,
correct oppression;
aabring justice to the fatherless,
plead the widow’s cause.

Isaiah 58:2-6

2 abYet they seek me daily
and delight to know my ways,
as if they were a nation that did righteousness
and did not forsake the judgment of their God;
they ask of me righteous judgments;
they delight to draw near to God.
3 acWhy have we fasted, and you see it not?
Why have we humbled ourselves, and you take no knowledge of it?’
Behold, in the day of your fast you seek your own pleasure,
Or pursue your own business

aeand oppress all your workers.
4Behold, you fast only to quarrel and to fight
and to hit with a wicked fist.
Fasting like yours this day
will not make your voice to be heard on high.
5 afIs such the fast that I choose,
aga day for a person to humble himself?
Is it to bow down his head like a reed,
and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him?
Will you call this a fast,
and a day acceptable to the Lord?
6 “Is not this the fast that I choose:
ahto loose the bonds of wickedness,
to undo the straps aiof the yoke,
to let the oppressed
Or bruised
go free,
and to break every yoke?

Jeremiah 7:2-10

2 akStand in the gate of the Lord’s house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the Lord, all you men of Judah who enter these gates to worship the Lord. 3Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: alAmend your ways and your deeds, and I will let you dwell in this place. 4 amDo not trust in these deceptive words: ‘This is the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord.’

5For if you truly anamend your ways and your deeds, if you truly aoexecute justice one with another, 6if you apdo not oppress the sojourner, the fatherless, or the widow, aqor shed innocent blood in this place, arand if you do not go after other gods to your own harm, 7 asthen I will let you dwell in this place, atin the land that I gave of old to your fathers forever.

8Behold, you trust in deceptive words to no avail. 9 auWill you steal, murder, commit adultery, avswear falsely, awmake offerings to Baal, axand go after other gods that you have not known, 10and then come and stand before me in this house, aywhich is called by my name, and say, ‘We are delivered!’—only to go on doing all these abominations?
