24And bMephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king. He had neither taken care of his feet nor trimmed his beard nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came back in safety. 25And when he came to Jerusalem to meet the king, the king said to him, cWhy did you not go with me, Mephibosheth?” 26He answered, “My lord, O king, my servant deceived me, for your servant said to him, ‘I will saddle a donkey for myself,
Septuagint, Syriac, Vulgate Saddle a donkey for me
that I may ride on it and go with the king.’ For eyour servant is lame.
27 fHe has slandered your servant to my lord the king. But my lord the king is glike the angel of God; do therefore what seems good to you. 28For all my father’s house were but men doomed to death before my lord the king, but hyou set your servant among those who eat at your table. What further right have I, then, to cry to the king?” 29And the king said to him, “Why speak any more of your affairs? I have decided: you and Ziba shall divide the land.” 30And Mephibosheth said to the king, “Oh, let him take it all, since my lord the king has come safely home.”

5And she said, “If it please the king, xand if I have found favor in his sight, and if the thing seems right before the king, and I am pleasing in his eyes, let an order be written to revoke ythe letters devised by Haman zthe Agagite, the son of Hammedatha, which he wrote to destroy the Jews who are in all the provinces of the king. 6For how can I bear aato see the calamity that is coming to my people? Or how can I bear to see the destruction of my kindred?” 7Then King Ahasuerus said to Queen Esther and to Mordecai the Jew, “Behold, abI have given Esther the house of Haman, and they have hanged him on the gallows,
Or stake
because he intended to lay hands on the Jews.
8But you may write as you please with regard to the Jews, in the name of the king, adand seal it with the king’s ring, for an edict written in the name of the king and sealed with the king’s ring aecannot be revoked.”

9 afThe king’s scribes were summoned at that time, in the third month, which is the month of Sivan, on the twenty-third day.
