Deuteronomy 15:17

17then you shall take an awl, and put it through his ear into the door, and he shall be your slave
Or servant; the Hebrew term  ‘ebed designates a range of social and economic roles (see Preface)
forever. And to your female slave

you shall do the same.

Jeremiah’s Complaint

1 cRighteous are you, O Lord,
when I complain to you;
yet I would plead my case before you.
dWhy does the way of the wicked prosper?
Why do all ewho are treacherous thrive?
2You plant them, and they take root;
they grow and produce fruit;

and far from their heart.

John 14:27
