Deuteronomy 15:7-11

7If among you, one of your brothers should become poor, in any of your towns within your land that the Lord your God is giving you, ayou shall not harden your heart or shut your hand against your poor brother, 8but byou shall open your hand to him and lend him sufficient for his need, whatever it may be. 9Take care lest there be an unworthy thought in your heart and you say, ‘The seventh year, the year of release is near,’ and your ceye look grudgingly
Or be evil; also verse 10
on your poor brother, and you give him nothing, and he ecry to the Lord against you, and fyou be guilty of sin.
10You shall give to him freely, and gyour heart shall not be grudging when you give to him, because hfor this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in all that you undertake. 11For ithere will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, j‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’

Nehemiah 5:1-5

Nehemiah Stops Oppression of the Poor

1Now there arose ka great outcry of the people and of their wives lagainst their Jewish brothers. 2For there were those who said, “With our sons and our daughters, we are many. So let us get grain, that we may eat and keep alive.” 3There were also those who said, “We are mortgaging our fields, our vineyards, and our houses to get grain because of the famine.” 4And there were those who said, “We have borrowed money for mthe king’s tax on our fields and our vineyards. 5Now nour flesh is as the flesh of our brothers, our children are as their children. Yet owe are forcing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and some of our daughters have already been enslaved, but it is not in our power to help it, for other men have our fields and our vineyards.”

Nehemiah 5:13

13 pI also shook out the fold
Hebrew bosom
of my garment and said, “So may God shake out every man from his house and from his labor who does not keep this promise. So may he be shaken out and emptied.” rAnd all the assembly saidAmen” and praised the Lord. And the people did as they had promised.

Proverbs 28:27

but he who thides his eyes will get many a curse.

Isaiah 1:15-17

15When you uspread out your hands,
I will hide my eyes from you;

Isaiah 58:6-9

Jeremiah 34:16-17

16but then you turned around amand profaned my name when each of you took back his male and female slaves, anwhom you had set free according to their desire, and you brought them into subjection to be your slaves.

17Therefore, thus says the Lord: You have not obeyed me aoby proclaiming liberty, every one to his brother and to his neighbor; apbehold, I proclaim to you liberty aqto the sword, to pestilence, and to famine, declares the Lord. arI will make you a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth.
