Deuteronomy 17:15

15you may indeed set a king over you awhom the Lord your God will choose. One bfrom among your brothers you shall set as king over you. You may not put a foreigner over you, who is not your brother.

Judges 9:2

2Say in the ears of all the leaders of Shechem, ‘Which is better for you, that all cseventy of the sons of Jerubbaal rule over you, or that one rule over you?’ Remember also that dI am eyour bone and your flesh.”

1 Chronicles 22:5-11

5For David said, fSolomon my son is young and inexperienced, and the house that is to be built for the Lord must be exceedingly magnificent, of fame and glory throughout all lands. I will therefore make preparation for it.” So David provided materials in great quantity before his death.

Solomon Charged to Build the Temple

6Then he called for Solomon his son and charged him to build a house for the Lord, the God of Israel. 7David said to Solomon, “My son, gI had it in my heart to build a house to the name of the Lord my God. 8But the word of the Lord came to me, saying, h‘You have shed much blood and have waged great wars. You shall not build a house to my name, because you have shed so much blood before me on the earth. 9Behold, a son shall be born to you who shall be a man of rest. iI will give him rest from all his surrounding enemies. jFor his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quiet to Israel in his days. 10 kHe shall build a house for my name. lHe shall be my son, and I will be his father, and I will establish his royal throne in Israel forever.’

11Now, my son, mthe Lord be with you, so that you may succeed in building the house of the Lord your God, as he has spoken concerning you.

1 Chronicles 28:5

5And of nall my sons (for the Lord has given me many sons) he ohas chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the Lord over Israel.

Offerings for the Temple

1And David the king said to all the assembly, “Solomon my son, whom alone God has chosen, is pyoung and inexperienced, and the work is great, for qthe palace will not be for man but for the Lord God.
