16Only he must not acquire many ahorses for himself or cause the people bto return to Egypt in order to acquire many horses, since the Lord has said to you, c‘You shall never return that way again.’

Isaiah 30:1-4

Do Not Go Down to Egypt

1 Ah, dstubborn children,” declares the Lord,
e“who carry out a plan, but not mine,
and who make fan alliance,
Hebrew  who weave a web
but not of my Spirit,
that they may add sin to sin;
2 hwho set out to go down to Egypt,
without asking for my direction,
to take refuge in the protection of Pharaoh
and to seek shelter in the shadow of Egypt!
3 iTherefore shall the protection of Pharaoh turn to your shame,
and the shelter in the shadow of Egypt to your humiliation.
4For though his officials are at jZoan
and khis envoys reach lHanes,

Isaiah 31:1-3

Woe to Those Who Go Down to Egypt

1 Woe to mthose who go down to Egypt for help
and rely on horses,
who ntrust in chariots because they are many
and in horsemen because they are very strong,
but odo not look to the Holy One of Israel
or consult the Lord!
2And pyet he is wise and brings disaster;
qhe does not call back his words,
but rwill arise against the house of the evildoers
and against the helpers of sthose who work iniquity.
3The Egyptians are man, and not God,
and their horses tare flesh, and not spirit.
When the Lord stretches out his hand,
the helper will stumble, and he who is helped will fall,
and they will all perish together.

Isaiah 36:6-9

6 uBehold, you are trusting in Egypt, that broken reed of a staff, which will pierce the hand of any man who leans on it. Such is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him. 7But if you say to me, “We trust in the Lord our God,” is it not he vwhose high places and altars Hezekiah has removed, saying to Judah and to Jerusalem, “You shall worship before this altar”? 8Come now, make a wager with my master the king of Assyria: I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to set riders on them. 9How then can you repulse wa single captain among the least of my master’s servants, when xyou trust in Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

Jeremiah 37:5-7

5 yThe army of Pharaoh had come out of Egypt. And when zthe Chaldeans who were besieging Jerusalem heard news about them, aathey withdrew from Jerusalem.

6Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah the prophet: 7Thus says the Lord, God of Israel: Thus shall you say to the king of Judah who absent you to me to inquire of me, ‘Behold, acPharaoh’s army that came to help you is about to adreturn to Egypt, to its own land.
