Deuteronomy 17:16-17

16Only he must not acquire many ahorses for himself or cause the people bto return to Egypt in order to acquire many horses, since the Lord has said to you, c‘You shall never return that way again.’ 17And he dshall not acquire many wives for himself, lest his heart turn away, enor shall he acquire for himself excessive silver and gold.

1 Kings 10:21-27

21All King Solomon’s drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of fthe House of the Forest of Lebanon were of pure gold. None were of silver; silver was not considered as anything in the days of Solomon. 22For the king had ga fleet of ships of Tarshish at sea with the fleet of Hiram. Once every three years the fleet of ships of Tarshish used to come bringing gold, silver, ivory, apes, and peacocks.

23 iThus King Solomon excelled all the kings of the earth in riches and in wisdom. 24And the whole earth sought the presence of Solomon to hear his wisdom, which God had put into his mind. 25Every one of them brought his present, articles of silver and gold, garments, myrrh, spices, horses, and mules, so much year by year.

26 jAnd Solomon gathered together kchariots and horsemen. He had 1,400 chariots and 12,000 horsemen, whom he stationed in the lchariot cities and with the king in Jerusalem. 27And the king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stone, and he made cedar as plentiful as mthe sycamore of the Shephelah.

2 Chronicles 9:20-25

Jeremiah 5:27-28

27Like a cage full of birds,
their houses are full of deceit;
therefore they have become great and rich;
28 rthey have grown fat and sleek.
They know no bounds in deeds of evil;
sthey judge not with justice
the cause of the fatherless, to make it prosper,
and they do not defend the rights of the needy.

James 5:1-3

Warning to the Rich

1Come now, tyou rich, weep and howl for the umiseries that are coming upon you. 2 vYour riches have rotted and wyour garments are moth-eaten. 3Your gold and silver have corroded, and their corrosion will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. xYou have laid up treasure yin the last days.
