Deuteronomy 17:9-11

9 aAnd you shall come to the Levitical priests and to the judge who is in office in those days, and you shall consult them, and bthey shall declare to you the decision. 10Then you shall do according to what they declare to you from that place that the Lord will choose. And you shall be careful to do according to all that they direct you. 11According to the instructions that they give you, and according to the decision which they pronounce to you, you shall do. You shall not turn aside from the verdict that they declare to you, either to the right hand or to the left.

disease, to be very careful to do according to all that the Levitical priests shall direct you. As I commanded them, so you shall be careful to do.

The Authority of Jesus Challenged

23 eAnd when he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him fas he was teaching, and said, gBy what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?” 24Jesus answered them, “I also will ask you one question, and if you tell me the answer, then I also will tell you by what authority I do these things. 25The baptism of John, hfrom where did it come? iFrom heaven or from man?” And they discussed it among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say to us, jWhy then did you not believe him?’ 26But if we say, ‘From man,’ kwe are afraid of the crowd, for they all hold that John was la prophet.” 27So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.” And he said to them, Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

The Parable of the Two Sons

28 mWhat do you think? A man had two sons. And he went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work in nthe vineyard today.’ 29And he answered, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he ochanged his mind and went. 30And he went to the other son and said the same. And he answered, ‘I go, sir,’ but did not go. 31Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said, “The first.” Jesus said to them, Truly, I say to you, pthe tax collectors and qthe prostitutes go into rthe kingdom of God before you. 32For John came to you sin the way of righteousness, and tyou did not believe him, but uthe tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. And even when you saw it, you did not afterward vchange your minds and believe him.

Luke 3:15-18

15As the people were in expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, wwhether he might be xthe Christ, 16 yJohn answered them all, saying, “I baptize you with water, but zhe who is mightier than I is coming, aathe strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you abwith the Holy Spirit and acfire. 17His adwinnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor and to aegather the wheat into his barn, afbut the chaff he will burn with agunquenchable fire.”

18So ahwith many other exhortations he preached good news to the people.

John 5:33-36

33 aiYou sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth. 34Not that ajthe testimony that I receive is from man, but I say these things so that you may be saved. 35He was a burning and akshining lamp, and alyou were willing to rejoice for a while in his light. 36But amthe testimony that I have is greater than that of John. For anthe works that the Father has given me aoto accomplish, the very works that I am doing, apbear witness about me that aqthe Father has sent me.
