Elijah Predicts a Drought
1Now Elijah the Tishbite, of bTishbe ▼▼Septuagint; Hebrew of the settlers
in Gilead, said to Ahab, d“As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, ebefore whom I stand, fthere shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word.” Jeremiah 14:1-6
Famine, Sword, and Pestilence
1The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah concerning gthe drought:2 h“Judah mourns,
and iher gates languish;
her people lament on the ground,
and jthe cry of Jerusalem goes up.
3Her nobles send their servants for water;
they come to the cisterns;
they find no water;
they return with their vessels empty;
they are kashamed and confounded
and lcover their heads.
4Because of the ground that is dismayed,
since there is mno rain on the land,
the farmers are ashamed;
they cover their heads.
5Even nthe doe in the field forsakes her newborn fawn
because there is no grass.
6 oThe wild donkeys stand on the bare heights;
they pant for air like jackals;
their eyes fail
because there is no vegetation.
Luke 4:25
25But in truth, I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when pthe heavens were shut up three years and six months, and a great famine came over all the land,
