What caused the heat of this great anger?’ 25 Then people will say, ‘It is because they abandoned the covenant of the Lord, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt, 26 and went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods whom they had not known and whom he had not allotted to them. 27 Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against this land, ^jbringing upon it all the curses written in this book, 28 and the Lord ^kuprooted them from their land in anger and fury and great wrath, and ^lcast them into another land, as they are this day.’

Deuteronomy 31:20-21

20 For when I have brought them into the land ^mflowing with milk and honey, which I swore to give to their fathers, and they have eaten and are full and ⁿgrown fat, ^othey will turn to other gods and serve them, and ^pdespise me and ^qbreak my covenant. 21 And when many evils and troubles have come upon them, this song shall confront them as ^ra witness (for it will live unforgotten in the mouths of their offspring). and from the fields of Gomorrah;
their grapes are grapes of ^axpoison;

and the cruel venom of asps.
34 “‘Is not this laid up in store with me,
^azsealed up in my treasuries?

for ^bdthe day of their calamity is at hand,
and their doom comes swiftly.’

Let them rise up and help you;
let them be your protection!

and there is none that can deliver out of my hand.
40 For ^bnI lift up my hand to heaven
and swear, As I live forever,

and my hand takes hold on judgment,
I will take vengeance on my adversaries
and will repay those who hate me.
42 I will make my arrows drunk with blood,
and ^bqmy sword shall devour flesh—
with the blood of the slain and the captives,
from the ^brlong-haired heads of the enemy.’

Joshua 23:15-16

15 But just as all the good things that the Lord your God promised concerning you have been fulfilled for you, so the Lord will bring upon you ^bsall the evil things, until he has destroyed you from off this good land that the Lord your God has given you, 16 if you transgress the covenant of the Lord your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them. Then the anger of the Lord will be kindled against you, and you shall perish quickly from off the good land that he has given to you.”

Micah 3:12
