Deuteronomy 29:22-28

22And the next generation, your children who rise up after you, and the foreigner who comes from a far land, awill say, when they see the afflictions of that land and the sicknesses with which the Lord has made it sick 23the whole land burned out with brimstone and bsalt, nothing sown and nothing growing, where no plant can sprout, can overthrow like that of Sodom and Gomorrah, dAdmah, and Zeboiim, which the Lord overthrew in his anger and wrath 24all the nations ewill say, fWhy has the Lord done thus to this land? What caused the heat of this great anger?’ 25Then people will say, ‘It is because they abandoned the covenant of the Lord, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt, 26and went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods whom they had not known and whom he had not allotted to them. 27Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against this land, gbringing upon it all the curses written in this book, 28and the Lord huprooted them from their land in anger and fury and great wrath, and icast them into another land, as they are this day.’

1 Kings 9:8-9

8And this house will become a heap of ruins.
Syriac, Old Latin; Hebrew  will become high
Everyone passing by it will be astonished and will hiss, and they will say, kWhy has the Lord done thus to this land and to this house?’
9Then they will say, ‘Because lthey abandoned the Lord their God who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt and laid hold on other gods and worshiped them and served them. Therefore the Lord has brought all this disaster on them.’”

Psalms 107:34

34 ma fruitful land into a salty waste,
because of the evil of its inhabitants.

Jeremiah 5:19-20

19And when your people say, nWhy has the Lord our God done all these things to us?’ you shall say to them, ‘As you have forsaken me and served foreign gods in your land, oso you shall serve foreigners in a land that is not yours.’”

20 Declare this in the house of Jacob;
proclaim it in Judah:

Jeremiah 16:10-13

10“And when you tell this people all these words, and they say to you, pWhy has the Lord pronounced all this great evil against us? What is our iniquity? What is the sin that we have committed against the Lord our God?’ 11then you shall say to them: qBecause your fathers have forsaken me, declares the Lord, and rhave gone after other gods and have served and worshiped them, and have forsaken me and have not kept my law, 12and because syou have done worse than your fathers, for behold, tevery one of you follows his stubborn, evil will, refusing to listen to me. 13Therefore uI will hurl you out of this land into va land that neither you nor your fathers have known, wand there you shall serve other gods day and night, for I will show you no favor.’

Jeremiah 22:8-9

8“‘And many nations will pass by this city, and every man will say to his neighbor, xWhy has the Lord dealt thus with this great city?” 9 yAnd they will answer, “Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord their God and worshiped other gods and served them.”’”
