Deuteronomy 29:24-28

24all the nations awill say, bWhy has the Lord done thus to this land? What caused the heat of this great anger?’ 25Then people will say, ‘It is because they abandoned the covenant of the Lord, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt, 26and went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods whom they had not known and whom he had not allotted to them. 27Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against this land, cbringing upon it all the curses written in this book, 28and the Lord duprooted them from their land in anger and fury and great wrath, and ecast them into another land, as they are this day.’

1 Kings 9:8-9

8And this house will become a heap of ruins.
Syriac, Old Latin; Hebrew  will become high
Everyone passing by it will be astonished and will hiss, and they will say, gWhy has the Lord done thus to this land and to this house?’
9Then they will say, ‘Because hthey abandoned the Lord their God who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt and laid hold on other gods and worshiped them and served them. Therefore the Lord has brought all this disaster on them.’”

2 Chronicles 7:20-22

20 ithen I will pluck you
Hebrew them; twice in this verse
up from my land that I have given you, and this house that I have consecrated for my name, I will cast out of my sight, and I will make it ka proverb and a byword among all peoples.
21And at this house, which was exalted, everyone passing by will be astonished and say, lWhy has the Lord done thus to this land and to this house?’ 22Then they will say, ‘Because they abandoned the Lord, the God of their fathers who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods and worshiped them and served them. Therefore he has brought all this disaster on them.’”

Jeremiah 22:8-9

8“‘And many nations will pass by this city, and every man will say to his neighbor, mWhy has the Lord dealt thus with this great city?” 9 nAnd they will answer, “Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord their God and worshiped other gods and served them.”’”

Lamentations 2:15-17

15 All who pass along the way
clap their hands at you;
othey hiss and wag their heads
at the daughter of Jerusalem:
“Is this the city that was called
pthe perfection of beauty,
qthe joy of all the earth?”
16 rAll your enemies
rail against you;
they hiss, they gnash their teeth,
they cry: “We shave swallowed her!
Ah, this is the day we longed for;
now we have it; twe see it!”
17 The Lord has done what he purposed;
he has carried out uhis word,
which he commanded vlong ago;
whe has thrown down xwithout pity;
yhe has made the enemy rejoice over you
and exalted the zmight of your foes.
