Then this people will rise and bwhore after the foreign gods among them in the land that they are entering, and they will cforsake me and dbreak my covenant that I have made with them. 17Then my anger will be kindled against them in that day, and eI will forsake them and fhide my face from them, and they will be devoured. And many evils and troubles will come upon them, so that they will say in that day, g‘Have not these evils come upon us because hour God is not among us?’ 18And I will surely hide my face in that day because of all the evil that they have done, because ithey have turned to other gods.

Israel’s Unfaithfulness

11 lAnd the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and served the Baals. 12 mAnd they abandoned the Lord, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt. nThey went after other gods, from among the gods of the peoples who were around them, and obowed down to them. pAnd they provoked the Lord to anger. 13They abandoned the Lord qand served the Baals and the Ashtaroth. 14 rSo the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he sgave them over to plunderers, who plundered them. tAnd he sold them into the hand of their surrounding enemies, uso that they could no longer withstand their enemies. 15Whenever they marched out, the hand of the Lord was against them for harm, as the Lord had warned, vand as the Lord had sworn to them. And they were in terrible distress.
