Deuteronomy 31:19-29

19Now therefore write athis song and bteach it to the people of Israel. Put it in their mouths, that this song may be ca witness for me against the people of Israel. 20For when I have brought them into the land dflowing with milk and honey, which I swore to give to their fathers, and they have eaten and are full and egrown fat, fthey will turn to other gods and serve them, and gdespise me and hbreak my covenant. 21And when many evils and troubles have come upon them, this song shall confront them as ia witness (for it will live unforgotten in the mouths of their offspring). For jI know what they are inclined to do even today, before I have brought them into the land that I swore to give.” 22So Moses wrote this song the same day and taught it to the people of Israel.

23 kAnd the Lord
Hebrew he
commissioned Joshua the son of Nun and said, m“Be strong and courageous, for you shall bring the people of Israel into the land that I swore to give them. nI will be with you.”

24When Moses had finished owriting the words of this law in a book to the very end, 25Moses commanded pthe Levites who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, 26Take this Book of the Law qand put it by the side of the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, that it may be there for ra witness against you. 27For I know how rebellious and sstubborn you are. Behold, even today while I am yet alive with you, tyou have been rebellious against the Lord. How much more after my death! 28Assemble to me all the elders of your tribes and your officers, that I may speak uthese words in their ears and vcall heaven and earth to witness against them. 29For I know that after my death wyou will surely act corruptly and turn aside from the way that I have commanded you. And xin the days to come yevil will befall you, because you will do what is evil in the sight of the Lord, zprovoking him to anger through the work of your hands.”

Joshua 24:24-29

24And the people said to Joshua, “The Lord our God we will serve, and his voice we will obey.” 25So Joshua aamade a covenant with the people that day, and put in place abstatutes and rules for them at Shechem. 26And Joshua acwrote these words in the Book of the Law of God. And adhe took a large stone and set it up there aeunder the terebinth that was by the sanctuary of the Lord. 27And Joshua said to all the people, “Behold, afthis stone shall be a witness against us, for agit has heard all the words of the Lord that he spoke to us. Therefore it shall be a witness against you, lest you deal falsely with your God.” 28So Joshua ahsent the people away, every man to his inheritance.

Offerings for the Temple

1And David the king said to all the assembly, “Solomon my son, whom alone God has chosen, is ajyoung and inexperienced, and the work is great, for akthe palace will not be for man but for the Lord God. 2So I have provided for the house of my God, so far as I was able, the gold for the things of gold, the silver for the things of silver, and the bronze for the things of bronze, the iron for the things of iron, and wood for the things of wood, besides great quantities of alonyx and stones for setting, antimony, colored stones, all sorts of precious stones and marble. 3Moreover, in addition to all that I have provided for the holy house, I have a treasure of my own of gold and silver, and because of my devotion to the house of my God I give it to the house of my God: 4 am3,000 talents

6Then arthe leaders of fathers’ houses made their freewill offerings, as did also the leaders of the tribes, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and asthe officers over the king’s work. 7They gave for the service of the house of God 5,000 talents and 10,000 atdarics
A  daric was a coin weighing about 1/4 ounce or 8.5 grams
of gold, 10,000 talents of silver, 18,000 talents of bronze and 100,000 talents of iron.
8And whoever had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of the Lord, in the care of avJehiel the Gershonite. 9Then the people rejoiced because they had given willingly, for with a awwhole heart they had offered freely to the Lord. David the king also rejoiced greatly.

David Prays in the Assembly

10Therefore David blessed the Lord in the presence of all the assembly. And David said: axBlessed are you, O Lord, the God of Israel our father, forever and ever. 11 ayYours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all. 12 azBoth riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. baIn your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all. 13And now we thank you, our God, and praise your glorious name.

14“But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able thus to offer willingly? For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you. 15 bbFor we are strangers before you and sojourners, as all our fathers were. Our days on the earth are bclike a shadow, and there is no abiding.
Septuagint, Vulgate; Hebrew hope, or prospect
16O Lord our God, all this abundance that we have provided for building you a house for your holy name comes from your hand and is all your own. 17I know, my God, bethat you test the heart and bfhave pleasure in uprightness. In the uprightness of my heart I have freely offered all these things, and now I have seen your people, who are present here, offering freely and joyously to you. 18O Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep forever such purposes and thoughts in the hearts of your people, and direct their hearts toward you. 19 bgGrant to Solomon my son a whole heart that he may keep your commandments, your testimonies, and your statutes, performing all, and that he may bhbuild the palace bifor which I have made provision.”

20Then David said to all the assembly, bjBless the Lord your God.” And all the assembly blessed the Lord, the God of their fathers, bkand bowed their heads and paid homage to the Lord and to the king.
