Deuteronomy 32:16-18

16 aThey stirred him to jealousy with strange gods;
with abominations they provoked him to anger.
17 bThey sacrificed to demons that were no gods,
to gods they had never known,
to cnew gods that had come recently,
whom your fathers had never dreaded.
18You were unmindful of dthe Rock that bore

and you fforgot the God who gave you birth.

Further Disobedience and Oppression

6 jThe people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord kand served the Baals and the Ashtaroth, the gods of Syria, lthe gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites, and the gods of the Philistines. And they mforsook the Lord and did not serve him.

1 Kings 11:5-7
