28and bthe curse, if you do not obey the commandments of the Lord your God, but turn aside from the way that I am commanding you today, cto go after other gods that you have not known.

Deuteronomy 29:24-28

24all the nations dwill say, eWhy has the Lord done thus to this land? What caused the heat of this great anger?’ 25Then people will say, ‘It is because they abandoned the covenant of the Lord, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt, 26and went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods whom they had not known and whom he had not allotted to them. 27Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against this land, fbringing upon it all the curses written in this book, 28and the Lord guprooted them from their land in anger and fury and great wrath, and hcast them into another land, as they are this day.’

Deuteronomy 31:17

17Then my anger will be kindled against them in that day, and iI will forsake them and jhide my face from them, and they will be devoured. And many evils and troubles will come upon them, so that they will say in that day, k‘Have not these evils come upon us because lour God is not among us?’

2 Kings 17:7-23

Exile Because of Idolatry

7And this occurred because the people of Israel had sinned against the Lord their God, mwho had brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods 8 nand walked in the customs of the nations whom the Lord drove out before the people of Israel, oand in the customs that the kings of Israel had practiced. 9And the people of Israel did secretly against the Lord their God things that were not right. They built for themselves high places in all their towns, pfrom watchtower to fortified city. 10They set up for themselves qpillars and Asherim on every high hill and under every green tree, 11and there they made offerings on all the high places, as the nations did whom the Lord carried away before them. And they did wicked things, provoking the Lord to anger, 12and they served idols, rof which the Lord had said to them, “You shall not do this.” 13Yet the Lord swarned Israel and Judah tby every prophet uand every seer, saying, vTurn from your evil ways and keep my commandments and my statutes, in accordance with all the Law that I commanded your fathers, and that I sent to you by my servants the prophets.”

14But they would not listen, wbut were stubborn, as their fathers had been, who did not believe in the Lord their God. 15They despised his statutes xand his covenant that he made with their fathers and the warnings that he gave them. They went after yfalse idols zand became false, and they followed the nations that were around them, concerning whom the aaLord had commanded them that they should not do like them. 16And they abandoned all the commandments of the Lord their God, and made for themselves metal images of abtwo calves; and they acmade an Asherah and adworshiped all the host of heaven and served aeBaal. 17 afAnd they burned their sons and their daughters as offerings
Or made their sons and their daughters pass through the fire
and used ahdivination and aiomens and ajsold themselves to do evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking him to anger.
18Therefore the Lord was very angry with Israel and removed them out of his sight. None was left but akthe tribe of Judah only.

19 alJudah also did not keep the commandments of the Lord their God, but walked in the customs that Israel had introduced. 20And the Lord rejected all the descendants of Israel and afflicted them amand gave them into the hand of plunderers, until he had cast them out of his sight.

21 anWhen he had torn Israel from the house of David, aothey made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king. And Jeroboam drove Israel from following the Lord apand made them commit great sin. 22The people of Israel walked in all the sins that Jeroboam did. They did not depart from them, 23until the Lord removed Israel out of his sight, aqas he had spoken by all his servants the prophets. arSo Israel was exiled from their own land to Assyria until this day.

Nehemiah 9:17

17They refused to obey asand were not mindful of the wonders that you performed among them, but they stiffened their neck and appointed a leader to return to their slavery in Egypt. But you are a God ready to forgive, atgracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and did not forsake them.

Nehemiah 9:26-27

26 au“Nevertheless, they were disobedient and rebelled against you avand cast your law behind their back awand killed your prophets, who axhad warned them in order to turn them back to you, ayand they committed great blasphemies. 27 azTherefore you gave them into the hand of their enemies, who made them suffer. baAnd in the time of their suffering they cried out to you and you heard them from heaven, and according to your great mercies you gave them bbsaviors who saved them from the hand of their enemies.
