Deuteronomy 9:22-24

22“At aTaberah also, and at bMassah and at cKibroth-hattaavah you provoked the Lord to wrath. 23And dwhen the Lord sent you from Kadesh-barnea, saying, ‘Go up and take possession of the land that I have given you,’ then you rebelled against the commandment of the Lord your God and edid not believe him or obey his voice. 24 fYou have been rebellious against the Lord from the day that I knew you.

Isaiah 63:9-10

9 gIn all their affliction he was afflicted,
Or  he did not afflict

and the angel of his presence saved them;
iin his love and in his pity he redeemed them;
jhe lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.
10 kBut they rebelled
land grieved his Holy Spirit;
therefore he turned to be their enemy,
and himself fought against them.

Jeremiah 2:5-13

5Thus says the Lord:

mWhat wrong did your fathers find in me
that they went far from me,
nand went after oworthlessness, and became worthless?
6They did not say, pWhere is the Lord
who brought us up from the land of Egypt,
who led us qin the wilderness,
in a land of deserts and pits,
in a land of drought and deep darkness,
in a land that none passes through,
where no man dwells?’
7 rAnd I brought you into a plentiful land
to enjoy its fruits and its good things.
But when you came in, syou defiled my land
and made my heritage an abomination.
8The priests did not say, ‘Where is the Lord?’
tThose who handle the law did not know me;
uthe shepherds
Or rulers
transgressed against me;
wthe prophets prophesied by Baal
and went after xthings that do not profit.
9 Therefore yI still contend with you,

declares the Lord,
and zwith your children’s children I will contend.
10For cross to the coasts of aaCyprus and see,
or send to abKedar and examine with care;
see if there has been such a thing.
11 acHas a nation changed its gods,
adeven though they are no gods?
But my people aehave changed their glory
for afthat which does not profit.
12Be appalled, agO heavens, at this;
be shocked, be utterly desolate,

declares the Lord,
13for my people have committed two evils:
ahthey have forsaken aime,
the fountain of ajliving waters,
and hewed out cisterns for themselves,
broken cisterns that can hold no water.

Malachi 1:6

The Priests’ Polluted Offerings

6 ak“A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If then I am ala father, where is my honor? And if I am ama master, where is my fear? says the Lord of hosts to you, O priests, who despise my name. anBut you say, ‘How have we despised your name?’
