Deuteronomy 9:4-6

4 ^a“Do not say in your heart, after the Lord your God has thrust them out before you, ‘It is because of my righteousness that the Lord has brought me in to possess this land,’ whereas it is ^bbecause of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is driving them out before you. 5 ^cNot because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart are you going in to possess their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations the Lord your God is driving them out from before you, and that he may confirm ^dthe word that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

6 “Know, therefore, that the Lord your God is not giving you this good land to possess because of your righteousness, for you are ^ea stubborn people.

Romans 3:27-28

27 ^fThen what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith. 28 For we hold that one is justified by faith ^gapart from works of the law.

Romans 4:4-5

4 Now ^hto the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due. 5 And to the one who does not work but ⁱbelieves in ^{▼▼Or but trusts; compare verse 24} him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness,
