Deuteronomy 9:7-12

7Remember and do not forget how you provoked the Lord your God to wrath in the wilderness. aFrom the day you came out of the land of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against the Lord. 8Even bat Horeb you provoked the Lord to wrath, and the Lord was so angry with you that he was ready to destroy you. 9 cWhen I went up the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant that the Lord made with you, I remained on the mountain dforty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water. 10And ethe Lord gave me the two tablets of stone written with the finger of God, and on them were all the words that the Lord had spoken with you on the mountain out of the midst of the fire fon the day of the assembly. 11And at the end of forty days and forty nights the Lord gave me the two tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant. 12Then the Lord said to me, gArise, go down quickly from here, for your people whom you have brought from Egypt have acted corruptly. They have hturned aside quickly out of the way that I commanded them; they have made themselves a metal image.’

Deuteronomy 9:22-24

22“At iTaberah also, and at jMassah and at kKibroth-hattaavah you provoked the Lord to wrath. 23And lwhen the Lord sent you from Kadesh-barnea, saying, ‘Go up and take possession of the land that I have given you,’ then you rebelled against the commandment of the Lord your God and mdid not believe him or obey his voice. 24 nYou have been rebellious against the Lord from the day that I knew you.

2 Kings 17:9-20

9And the people of Israel did secretly against the Lord their God things that were not right. They built for themselves high places in all their towns, ofrom watchtower to fortified city. 10They set up for themselves ppillars and Asherim on every high hill and under every green tree, 11and there they made offerings on all the high places, as the nations did whom the Lord carried away before them. And they did wicked things, provoking the Lord to anger, 12and they served idols, qof which the Lord had said to them, “You shall not do this.” 13Yet the Lord rwarned Israel and Judah sby every prophet tand every seer, saying, uTurn from your evil ways and keep my commandments and my statutes, in accordance with all the Law that I commanded your fathers, and that I sent to you by my servants the prophets.”

14But they would not listen, vbut were stubborn, as their fathers had been, who did not believe in the Lord their God. 15They despised his statutes wand his covenant that he made with their fathers and the warnings that he gave them. They went after xfalse idols yand became false, and they followed the nations that were around them, concerning whom the zLord had commanded them that they should not do like them. 16And they abandoned all the commandments of the Lord their God, and made for themselves metal images of aatwo calves; and they abmade an Asherah and acworshiped all the host of heaven and served adBaal. 17 aeAnd they burned their sons and their daughters as offerings
Or made their sons and their daughters pass through the fire
and used agdivination and ahomens and aisold themselves to do evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking him to anger.
18Therefore the Lord was very angry with Israel and removed them out of his sight. None was left but ajthe tribe of Judah only.

19 akJudah also did not keep the commandments of the Lord their God, but walked in the customs that Israel had introduced. 20And the Lord rejected all the descendants of Israel and afflicted them aland gave them into the hand of plunderers, until he had cast them out of his sight.

Nehemiah 9:16-37

16“But they and our fathers amacted presumptuously and stiffened their neck and did not obey your commandments. 17They refused to obey anand were not mindful of the wonders that you performed among them, but they stiffened their neck and appointed a leader to return to their slavery in Egypt. But you are a God ready to forgive, aogracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and did not forsake them. 18Even apwhen they had made for themselves a golden
Hebrew metal
calf and said, ‘This is your God who brought you up out of Egypt,’ arand had committed great blasphemies,
19you asin your great mercies did not forsake them in the wilderness. atThe pillar of cloud to lead them in the way did not depart from them by day, aunor the pillar of fire by night to light for them the way by which they should go. 20 avYou gave your good Spirit to instruct them awand did not withhold your manna from their mouth and gave them water for their thirst. 21 axForty years you sustained them in the wilderness, and they lacked nothing. Their clothes did not wear out and their feet did not swell.

22“And you gave them kingdoms and peoples and allotted to them every corner. aySo they took possession of the land of Sihon king of Heshbon azand the land of Og king of Bashan. 23You multiplied their children baas the stars of heaven, and you brought them into the land that you had told their fathers to enter and possess. 24 bbSo the descendants went in and possessed the land, bcand you subdued before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, and gave them into their hand, with their kings and the peoples of the land, that they might do with them as they would. 25And they captured bdfortified cities and bea rich land, and took possession of bfhouses full of all good things, cisterns already hewn, vineyards, olive orchards and fruit trees in abundance. So they ate and were filled bgand became fat and delighted themselves in bhyour great goodness.

26 bi“Nevertheless, they were disobedient and rebelled against you bjand cast your law behind their back bkand killed your prophets, who blhad warned them in order to turn them back to you, bmand they committed great blasphemies. 27 bnTherefore you gave them into the hand of their enemies, who made them suffer. boAnd in the time of their suffering they cried out to you and you heard them from heaven, and according to your great mercies you gave them bpsaviors who saved them from the hand of their enemies. 28 bqBut after they had rest they did evil again before you, and you abandoned them to the hand of their enemies, so that they had dominion over them. Yet when they turned and cried to you, you heard from heaven, brand many times you delivered them according to your mercies. 29 bsAnd you warned them in order to turn them back to your law. Yet btthey acted presumptuously and did not obey your commandments, but sinned against your rules, buwhich if a person does them, he shall live by them, bvand they turned a stubborn shoulder bwand stiffened their neck and would not obey. 30Many years bxyou bore with them byand warned them bzby your Spirit through your prophets. caYet they would not give ear. cbTherefore you gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands. 31Nevertheless, ccin your great mercies cdyou did not make an end of them or forsake them, cefor you are a gracious and merciful God.

32Now, therefore, our God, cfthe great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love, let not all the hardship seem little to you that has come upon us, upon our kings, our princes, our priests, our prophets, our fathers, and all your people, cgsince the time of the kings of Assyria until this day. 33 chYet you have been righteous in all that has come upon us, for you have dealt faithfully ciand we have acted wickedly. 34Our kings, our princes, our priests, and our fathers have not kept your law or paid attention to your commandments and your warnings that you gave them. 35Even in their own kingdom, cjand amid your great goodness that you gave them, and in the large and ckrich land that you set before them, clthey did not serve you or turn from their wicked works. 36Behold, cmwe are slaves this day; in the land that you gave to our fathers to enjoy its fruit and its good gifts, behold, we are slaves. 37 cnAnd its rich yield goes to the kings whom you have set over us because of our sins. They rule over our bodies and over our livestock as they please, and we are in great distress.

Jeremiah 2:7

7 coAnd I brought you into a plentiful land
to enjoy its fruits and its good things.
But when you came in, cpyou defiled my land
and made my heritage an abomination.

Jeremiah 3:25

25 cqLet us lie down in our shame, and let our dishonor cover us. For crwe have sinned against the Lord our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even to this day, and we have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God.”

Jeremiah 7:22-26

22For in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, I did not speak to your fathers or command them csconcerning burnt offerings and sacrifices. 23But this command I gave them: ctObey my voice, and cuI will be your God, and you shall be my people. cvAnd walk in all the way that I command you, cwthat it may be well with you.’ 24 cxBut they did not obey or incline their ear, cybut walked in their own counsels and czthe stubbornness of their evil hearts, and dawent backward and not forward. 25From the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt to this day, dbI have persistently sent all my servants the prophets to them, day after day. 26 dcYet they did not listen to me or incline their ear, ddbut stiffened their neck. deThey did worse than their fathers.
