Ecclesiastes 2:16-21

16For of the wise as of the fool there is ano enduring remembrance, seeing that in the days to come all will have been long forgotten. bHow the wise dies just like the fool! 17So I hated life, because what is done under the sun was grievous to me, for call is vanity and a striving after wind.

The Vanity of Toil

18I hated dall my toil in which I toil under the sun, seeing that I must eleave it to the man who will come after me, 19and who knows whether he will be wise or a fool? Yet he will be master of all for which I toiled and used my wisdom under the sun. This also is vanity. 20So I fturned about and gave my heart up to despair gover all the toil of my labors under the sun, 21because sometimes a person who has toiled with wisdom and knowledge and skill must leave everything to be enjoyed by someone who did not toil for it. This also is vanity and a great evil.

Ecclesiastes 9:1-2

Death Comes to All

1But all this I laid to heart, examining it all, hhow the righteous and the wise and their deeds are iin the hand of God. Whether it is love or hate, man does not know; both are before him. 2 jIt is the same for all, since kthe same event happens to the righteous and the wicked, to the good and the evil,
Septuagint, Syriac, Vulgate; Hebrew lacks  and the evil
to the clean and the unclean, to him who sacrifices and him who does not sacrifice. As the good one is, so is the sinner, and he who mswears is as he who shuns an oath.

Romans 5:12-14

Death in Adam, Life in Christ

12Therefore, just as nsin came into the world through one man, and odeath through sin, and pso death spread to all men
The Greek word anthropoi refers here to both men and women; also twice in verse 18
because rall sinned
13for sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but ssin is not counted where there is no law. 14Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not tlike the transgression of Adam, uwho was a type of vthe one who was to come.

Hebrews 9:27
