Ecclesiastes 2:18-21

The Vanity of Toil

18I hated aall my toil in which I toil under the sun, seeing that I must bleave it to the man who will come after me, 19and who knows whether he will be wise or a fool? Yet he will be master of all for which I toiled and used my wisdom under the sun. This also is vanity. 20So I cturned about and gave my heart up to despair dover all the toil of my labors under the sun, 21because sometimes a person who has toiled with wisdom and knowledge and skill must leave everything to be enjoyed by someone who did not toil for it. This also is vanity and a great evil.

Ecclesiastes 6:2

The Hebrew term hebel can refer to a “vapor” or “mere breath”; also verses 4, 9, 11 (see note on 1:2)
it is a grievous evil.

Isaiah 2:12-17

12 jFor the Lord of hosts has a day
against all that is proud and lofty,
against all that is lifted up—and it shall be brought low;
13against all the kcedars of Lebanon,
lofty and lifted up;
and against all the loaks of Bashan;
14against all mthe lofty mountains,
and against all the uplifted hills;
15against every high tower,
and against every fortified wall;
16against all nthe ships of Tarshish,
and against all the beautiful craft.
17 oAnd the haughtiness of man shall be humbled,
and the lofty pride of men shall be brought low,
and the Lord alone will be exalted in that day.

Isaiah 23:9

9The Lord of hosts has purposed it,
pto defile the pompous pride of all glory,
The Hebrew words for  glory and  hosts sound alike

to dishonor all the honored of the earth.

Isaiah 28:1

Amos 1:8

8I will cut off the inhabitants from wAshdod,
and him who holds the scepter from Ashkelon;

and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish,”

says the Lord God.

10This shall be their lot in return xfor their pride,
