15 aThe couriers went out hurriedly by order of the king, and the decree was issued in Susa the citadel. And the king and Haman sat down to drink, bbut the city of Susa was thrown into confusion.

Ecclesiastes 3:4

4a time to cweep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to ddance;

Isaiah 5:12-14

12 eThey have lyre and harp,
tambourine and flute and wine at their feasts,
fbut they do not regard the deeds of the Lord,
or see the work of his hands.
13 Therefore my people go into exile
gfor lack of knowledge;
Or without their knowledge

their ihonored men go hungry,
Or die of hunger

and their multitude is parched with thirst.
14Therefore Sheol has kenlarged its appetite
and opened lits mouth beyond measure,
and the nobility of Jerusalem
Hebrew her nobility
and her multitude will go down,
her revelers and he who nexults in her.

Isaiah 22:12-14

12 In that day othe Lord God of hosts
called for weeping and mourning,
for pbaldness and qwearing sackcloth;
13and behold, joy and gladness,
killing oxen and slaughtering sheep,
eating flesh and drinking wine.
r“Let us eat and drink,
for tomorrow we die.”
14The Lord of hosts shas revealed himself in my ears:
“Surely tthis iniquity will not be atoned for you uuntil you die,”
says the Lord God of hosts.

Amos 6:3-7

3 vO you who put far away the day of disaster
wand bring near the seat of violence?
4 “Woe to those xwho lie on ybeds of ivory
zand stretch themselves out on their couches,
and eat lambs from the flock
aaand calves from the midst of the stall,
5 abwho sing idle songs to the sound of the harp
and like David acinvent for themselves instruments of music,
6 adwho drink wine in bowls
and aeanoint themselves with the finest oils,
but are not grieved over the ruin of Joseph!
7 afTherefore they shall now be the first of those who go into exile,
and the revelry of those who stretch themselves out shall pass away.”

Nahum 1:10

10For they are aglike entangled thorns,
like drunkards as they drink;
ahthey are consumed like stubble fully dried.
