Esther Agrees to Help the Jews

1 When Mordecai learned all that had been done, Mordecai tore his clothes ^aand put on sackcloth and ashes, and went out into the midst of the city, and he cried out with a loud and bitter cry. 2 He went up to the entrance of the king’s gate, for no one was allowed to enter the king’s gate clothed in sackcloth. 3 And in every province, wherever the king’s command and his decree reached, there was great mourning among the Jews, ^bwith fasting and weeping and lamenting, and many of them ^clay in sackcloth and ashes.

Esther 8:15

15 Then Mordecai went out from the presence of the king ^din royal robes of blue and white, with a great golden crown ^{▼▼Or headdress} and ^fa robe of fine linen and purple, ^gand the city of Susa shouted and rejoiced.

Esther 9:22

22 as the days on which the Jews got relief from their enemies, and as the month that had been turned for them from sorrow into gladness and from mourning into ^ha holiday; that they should make them days of feasting and gladness, days for sending gifts of food to one another and gifts to the poor.
