Exodus 14:7-31

7and took asix hundred chosen chariots and all the other chariots of Egypt with officers over all of them. 8And bthe Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued the people of Israel while cthe people of Israel were going out defiantly. 9The dEgyptians pursued them, all Pharaoh’s horses and chariots and his horsemen and his army, and overtook them eencamped at the sea, by Pi-hahiroth, in front of Baal-zephon.

10When Pharaoh drew near, the people of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they feared greatly. And the people of Israel fcried out to the Lord. 11They gsaid to Moses, “Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us in bringing us out of Egypt? 12Is not this what hwe said to you in Egypt: ‘Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.” 13And Moses said to the people, iFear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For jthe Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. 14 kThe Lord will fight for you, and you have only lto be silent.”

15The Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to me? Tell the people of Israel to go forward. 16 mLift up your staff, and nstretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, that the people of Israel may go through the sea on dry ground. 17And oI will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they shall go in after them, and pI will get glory over Pharaoh and all his host, his chariots, and his horsemen. 18And the Egyptians qshall know that I am the Lord, rwhen I have gotten glory over Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen.”

19 sThen the angel of God who was going before the host of Israel moved and went behind them, and the pillar of cloud moved from before them and stood behind them, 20coming between the host of Egypt and the host of Israel. And there was the cloud and the darkness. And it lit up the night
Septuagint  and the night passed
without one coming near the other all night.

21Then Moses ustretched out his hand over the sea, and the Lord drove the sea back by va strong east wind all night and wmade the sea dry land, and the waters were xdivided. 22And ythe people of Israel went into the midst of the sea on dry ground, the waters being za wall to them on their right hand and on their left. 23The Egyptians pursued and went in after them into the midst of the sea, all Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen. 24And in the morning watch the Lord in the pillar of fire and of cloud looked down on the Egyptian forces and threw the Egyptian forces into a panic, 25clogging
Or binding (compare Samaritan, Septuagint, Syriac); Hebrew removing
their chariot wheels so that they drove heavily. And the Egyptians said, “Let us flee from before Israel, for the abLord fights for them against the Egyptians.”

26Then the Lord said to Moses, ac“Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the water may come back upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen.” 27 adSo Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea aereturned to its normal course when the morning appeared. And as the Egyptians fled into it, the Lord afthrew
Hebrew shook off
the Egyptians into the midst of the sea.
28The ahwaters returned and covered the chariots and the horsemen; of all the host of Pharaoh that had followed them into the sea, ainot one of them remained. 29But the ajpeople of Israel walked on dry ground through the sea, the waters being a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.

30Thus the Lord aksaved Israel that day from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. 31 alIsrael saw the great power that the Lord used against the Egyptians, so the people feared the Lord, and they ambelieved in the Lord and in his servant Moses.

1When Jabin, king of Hazor, heard of this, he ansent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph, 2and to the kings who were in the northern hill country, and in the aoArabah south of apChinneroth, and in the lowland, and aqin Naphoth-dor on the arwest, 3to the Canaanites in the east and the west, the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, and the asJebusites in the hill country, and the atHivites under auHermon in the land of avMizpah. 4And they came out with all their troops, a great horde, in number awlike the sand that is on the seashore, with very many horses and chariots. 5And all these kings joined their forces and came and encamped together at the waters of Merom to fight against Israel.

6And the Lord said to Joshua, ax“Do not be afraid of them, for tomorrow at this time I will give over all of them, slain, to Israel. You shall ayhamstring their horses and burn their azchariots with fire.” 7So Joshua and all his warriors came basuddenly against them by the waters of Merom and fell upon them. 8And the Lord gave them into the hand of Israel, who struck them and chased them as far as bbGreat Sidon and bcMisrephoth-maim, and eastward as far as the Valley of bdMizpeh. And they struck them until he left none remaining. 9And Joshua did to them bejust as the Lord said to him: he hamstrung their horses and burned their chariots with fire.

Joshua 17:16-18

16The people of Joseph said, “The hill country is not enough for us. Yet all the Canaanites who dwell in the plain have bfchariots of iron, both those in Beth-shean and its villages and those in bgthe Valley of Jezreel.” 17Then Joshua said to the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and Manasseh, “You are a numerous people and have great power. You shall not have one allotment only, 18but the hill country shall be yours, for though it is a forest, you shall clear it and possess it to its farthest borders. For you shall drive out the Canaanites, bhthough they have chariots of iron, and though they are strong.”

Psalms 46:9

9 biHe makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
he bjbreaks the bow and shatters the spear;
