9and said to the men, “I know that the Lord has given you the land, hand that the fear of you has fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land imelt away before you. 10For we have heard how the Lord jdried up the water of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and kwhat you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to lSihon and Og, whom you devoted to destruction.
That is, set apart ( devoted) as an offering to the Lord (for destruction)
11And nas soon as we heard it, oour hearts melted, and there was no spirit left in any man because of you, for pthe Lord your God, he is God in the heavens above and on the earth beneath.

Joshua 9:9-11

9They said to him, q“From a very distant country your servants have come, because of the name of the Lord your God. rFor we have heard a report of him, and all that he did in Egypt, 10 sand all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon the king of Heshbon, and to Og king of Bashan, who lived in tAshtaroth. 11So our elders and all the inhabitants of our country said to us, ‘Take provisions in your hand for the journey and go to meet them and say to them, “We are your servants. Come now, make a covenant with us.”’
