Exodus 17:8-16

Israel Defeats Amalek

8 aThen Amalek came and fought with Israel at Rephidim. 9So Moses said to bJoshua, “Choose for us men, and go out and fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with cthe staff of God in my hand.” 10So dJoshua did as Moses told him, and fought with Amalek, while Moses, Aaron, and eHur went up to the top of the hill. 11Whenever Moses fheld up his hand, Israel prevailed, and whenever he lowered his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12But Moseshands grew weary, so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it, while Aaron and gHur held up his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side. So his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. 13And hJoshua overwhelmed Amalek and his people with the sword.

14Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this as a memorial in a book and recite it in the ears of iJoshua, that jI will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven.” 15And Moses kbuilt an altar and called the name of it, The Lord Is My Banner, 16saying, “A hand upon the throne
A slight change would yield  upon the banner
of the Lord! mThe Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.”

Numbers 24:20

20Then he looked on Amalek and ntook up his discourse and said,

Amalek was the first among the nations,
obut its end is utter destruction.”

Deuteronomy 25:17-19

17 pRemember what Amalek did to you qon the way as you came out of Egypt, 18how he attacked you on the way when you were faint and weary, and rcut off your tail, those who were lagging behind you, and he did not fear God. 19Therefore swhen the Lord your God has given you rest from all your enemies around you, in the land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance to possess, you shall tblot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven; you shall not forget.
