in the heart of the seas,’
yet myou are but a man, and no god,

3 oyou are indeed wiser pthan qDaniel;
no secret is hidden from you;
4by your wisdom and your understanding
ryou have made wealth for yourself,
and have gathered gold and silver
into your treasuries;
5by your great wisdom in your trade
you have increased your wealth,
and syour heart has become proud in your wealth
6therefore thus says the Lord God:
tBecause you make your heart
like the heart of a god,
7therefore, behold, I will bring uforeigners upon you,
the most ruthless of the nations;
and they shall draw their swords against vthe beauty of your wisdom
and defile wyour splendor.
8 xThey shall thrust you down into the pit,
yand you shall die the death of the slain

in the presence of those who kill you,
though aayou are but a man, and no god,
in the hands of those who slay you?

He was fed grass like an ox, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, aiuntil he knew that the ajMost High God rules the kingdom of mankind and sets over it whom he will. 22And you his son,
Or successor
alBelshazzar, amhave not humbled your heart, though you knew all this,
23but you have lifted up yourself against anthe Lord of heaven. And aothe vessels of his house have been brought in before you, and you and your lords, your wives, and your concubines have drunk wine from them. apAnd you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see or hear or know, aqbut the God in whose hand is your breath, and arwhose are all your ways, asyou have not honored.
