—who has ehardened himself against him, and succeeded?—

Psalms 2:10-12

10 Now therefore, O kings, be wise;
be warned, O rulers of the earth.
11 fServe the Lord with gfear,
and hrejoice with itrembling.
12 jKiss kthe Son,
lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,

Psalms 52:1-5

The Steadfast Love of God Endures

To the choirmaster. A Maskil
Probably a musical or liturgical term
of David, when oDoeg, the Edomite, came and told Saul, “David has come to the house of Ahimelech.”

1 Why do you boast of evil, O mighty man?
The steadfast love of God endures all the day.
2Your ptongue plots destruction,
like qa sharp razor, you rworker of deceit.
3You love evil more than good,
and slying more than speaking what is right.  Selah
4You love all words that devour,
O deceitful tongue.
5 But God will break you down forever;
he will snatch and ttear you from your tent;
he will uproot you from uthe land of the living.  Selah

Psalms 73:3-12

3 vFor I was wenvious of the arrogant
when I saw the xprosperity of the wicked.
4 For they have no pangs until death;
their bodies are fat and sleek.
5They are not in trouble as others are;
they are not ystricken like the rest of mankind.
6Therefore pride is ztheir necklace;
violence covers them as aaa garment.
7Their abeyes swell out through fatness;
their hearts overflow with follies.
8They scoff and acspeak with malice;
loftily they threaten oppression.
9They set their mouths against the heavens,
and their tongue struts through the earth.
10Therefore his people turn back to them,
and find adno fault in them.
Probable reading; Hebrew the waters of a full cup are drained by them

11And they say, afHow can God know?
Is there knowledge in the Most High?”
12Behold, these are the wicked;
always at ease, they agincrease in riches.

Psalms 75:4-5

4I say to the boastful, ‘Do not boast,’
and to the wicked, ah‘Do not lift up your horn;
5do not lift up your horn on high,
or speak with haughty neck.’”

Isaiah 10:7-16

7But he aidoes not so intend,
and his heart does not so think;
but it is in his heart to destroy,
and to cut off nations not a few;
8for he says:
aj“Are not my commanders all kings?
9 akIs not alCalno like amCarchemish?
Is not anHamath like aoArpad?
apIs not aqSamaria like Damascus?
10As my hand has reached to arthe kingdoms of the idols,
whose carved images were greater than those of Jerusalem and Samaria,
11shall I not do to Jerusalem and asher idols
atas I have done to Samaria and her images?”
12 auWhen the Lord has finished all his work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, avhe
Hebrew I
will punish the speech of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria and the boastful look in his eyes.
13 axFor he says:

“By the strength of my hand I have done it,
and by my wisdom, for I have understanding;
I remove the boundaries of peoples,
and plunder their treasures;
like a bull I bring down those who sit on thrones.
14My hand has found like a nest
the wealth of the peoples;
and as one gathers eggs that have been forsaken,
so I have gathered all the earth;
and there was none that moved a wing
or opened the mouth or chirped.”
15 Shall aythe axe boast over him who hews with it,
or the saw magnify itself against him who wields it?
As if a rod should wield him who lifts it,
or as if a staff should lift him who is not wood!
16Therefore the Lord God of hosts
will send wasting sickness among his azstout warriors,
and under his glory baa burning will be kindled,
like the burning of fire.
