Exodus 24:1-12

The Covenant Confirmed

1Then he said to Moses, “Come up to the Lord, you and Aaron, fNadab, and Abihu, and gseventy of the elders of Israel, and worship from afar. 2Moses halone shall come near to the Lord, but the others shall not come near, and the people shall not come up with him.”

3Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord and iall the rules.

And all the people answered with one voice and said, kAll the words that the Lord has spoken we will do.”
4And lMoses wrote down all the words of the Lord. He rose early in the morning and built an altar at the foot of the mountain, and twelve mpillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel. 5And he sent young men of the people of Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen to the Lord. 6And nMoses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and half of the blood he threw against the altar. 7Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it in the hearing of the people. And they said, oAll that the Lord has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient.” 8 pAnd Moses took the blood and threw it on the people and said, “Behold the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words.”

9Then Moses and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and qseventy of the elders of Israel rwent up, 10and they ssaw the God of Israel. There was under his feet as it were a pavement of tsapphire stone, like the very heaven for clearness. 11And he did not lay his hand on the chief men of the people of Israel; they beheld God, and uate and drank.

12The Lord said to Moses, v“Come up to me on the mountain and wait there, that I may give you the wtablets of stone, with the law and the commandment, which I have written for their instruction.”

Exodus 34:27-35

27And the Lord said to Moses, “Write these words, for in accordance with these words xI have made a covenant with you and with Israel.” 28 ySo he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights. He neither ate bread nor drank water. And he zwrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.

The Shining Face of Moses

29When Moses came down from Mount Sinai, with abthe two tablets of the testimony in his hand as he came down from the mountain, Moses did not know that the skin of his face acshone because he had been talking with God.

30Aaron and all the people of Israel saw Moses, and behold, the skin of his face aeshone, and they were afraid to come near him. 31But Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the leaders of the congregation returned to him, and Moses talked with them. 32Afterward all the people of Israel came near, and he afcommanded them all that the Lord had spoken with him in Mount Sinai. 33And when Moses had finished speaking with them, he put a agveil over his face.

34Whenever Moses ahwent in before the Lord to speak with him, he would remove the veil, until he came out. And when he came out and told the people of Israel what he was commanded, 35the people of Israel would see the face of Moses, that the skin of Mosesface was aishining. And Moses would put the veil over his face again, until he went in to speak with him.

Leviticus 15:32

32This is the law ajfor him who has a discharge and akfor him who has an emission of semen, becoming unclean thereby;

Deuteronomy 5:5

5 alwhile I stood between the Lord and you at that time, to declare to you the word of the Lord. For amyou were afraid because of the fire, and you did not go up into the mountain. He said:

Deuteronomy 5:22-33

22These words the Lord spoke to all your assembly anat the mountain out of the midst of the fire, the cloud, and the thick darkness, with a loud voice; and he added no more. And aohe wrote them on two tablets of stone and gave them to me. 23And apas soon as you heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, while the mountain was burning with fire, you came near to me, all the heads of your tribes, and your elders. 24And you said, ‘Behold, the Lord our God has shown us his glory and aqgreatness, and arwe have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire. This day we have seen God speak with man, and man asstill live. 25Now therefore why should we die? For this great fire will consume us. atIf we hear the voice of the Lord our God any more, we shall die. 26 auFor who is there of all flesh, that has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of fire as we have, and has still lived? 27Go near and hear all that the Lord our God will say, and avspeak to us all that the Lord our God will speak to you, and we will hear and do it.’

28“And the Lord heard your words, when you spoke to me. And the Lord said to me, ‘I have heard the words of this people, which they have spoken to you. awThey are right in all that they have spoken. 29 axOh that they had such a heart as this always, to fear me and to keep all my commandments, aythat it might go well with them and with their descendants

30Go and say to them, “Return to your tents.” 31But you, stand here by me, and baI will tell you the whole commandment and the statutes and the rules that you shall teach them, that they may do them in the land that I am giving them to possess.’ 32You shall be careful therefore to do as the Lord your God has commanded you. bbYou shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. 33 bcYou shall walk in all the way that the Lord your God has commanded you, that you may live, and bdthat it may go well with you, and that you may live long in the land that you shall possess.
