Laws About the Sabbath and Festivals

10 a“For six years you shall sow your land and gather in its yield, 11but the seventh year you shall let it rest and lie fallow, that the poor of your people may eat; and what they leave the beasts of the field may eat. You shall do likewise with your vineyard, and with your olive orchard.

Leviticus 25:20-23

20And if you say, b‘What shall we eat in the seventh year, if cwe may not sow or gather in our crop?’ 21I will dcommand my blessing on you in the sixth year, so that it will produce a crop sufficient for three years. 22 eWhen you sow in the eighth year, you will be eating some of fthe old crop; you shall eat the old until the ninth year, when its crop arrives.

Redemption of Property

23“The land shall not be sold in perpetuity, for gthe land is mine. For you are strangers and sojourners with me.

Leviticus 26:34-35

34 h“Then the land shall enjoy
Or pay for; twice in this verse; also verse 43
its Sabbaths as long as it lies desolate, while you are in your enemiesland; then the land shall rest, and enjoy its Sabbaths.
35As long as it lies desolate it shall have rest, the rest that it did not have on your Sabbaths when you were dwelling in it.

Leviticus 26:43

43But jthe land shall be abandoned by them and enjoy its Sabbaths while it lies desolate without them, and they shall make amends for their iniquity, because they spurned my rules and their soul abhorred my statutes.

2 Chronicles 36:21

21to fulfill the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had kenjoyed its Sabbaths. All the days that it lay desolate lit kept Sabbath, to fulfill seventy years.
