Proverbs 1:11-29

11If they say, “Come with us, olet us lie in wait for blood;
plet us ambush the innocent without reason;
12like Sheol let us qswallow them alive,
and whole, like rthose who go down to the pit;
13we shall find all precious goods,
we shall fill our houses with plunder;
14throw in your lot among us;
we will all have one purse”—
15my son, sdo not walk in the way with them;
thold back your foot from their paths,
16for utheir feet run to evil,
and they make haste to shed blood.
17 vFor in vain is a net spread
in the sight of any bird,
18but these men wlie in wait for their own blood;
they xset an ambush for their own lives.
19 ySuch are the ways of everyone who is zgreedy for unjust gain;
aait takes away the life of its possessors.

The Call of Wisdom

20 abWisdom cries aloud in the street,
in the markets she raises her voice;
21at the head of the noisy streets she cries out;
at acthe entrance of the city gates she speaks:
22“How long, O adsimple ones, will you love being simple?
How long will aescoffers delight in their scoffing
and fools afhate knowledge?
23If you turn at my reproof,
Or Will you turn away at my reproof?

behold, I will ahpour out my spirit to you;
I will make my words known to you.
24 aiBecause I have called and ajyou refused to listen,
have akstretched out my hand and no one has heeded,
25because you have alignored all my counsel
and amwould have none of my reproof,
26I also anwill laugh at your calamity;
I will mock when aoterror strikes you,
27when terror strikes you like apa storm
and your calamity comes like a whirlwind,
when distress and anguish come upon you.
28 aqThen they will call upon me, but I will not answer;
they will seek me diligently but will not find me.
29Because they arhated knowledge
and asdid not choose the fear of the Lord,

Ezekiel 22:12-13

12In you atthey take bribes to shed blood; auyou take interest and profit
That is, profit that comes from charging interest to the poor (compare Leviticus 25:36)
and make gain of your neighbors by extortion; but awme you have forgotten, declares the Lord God.

13Behold, axI strike my hand at aythe dishonest gain that you have made, and at azthe blood that has been in your midst.
