The Priests’ Garments

1“Then bring near to you aAaron your brother, and his sons with him, from among the people of Israel, to serve me as priestsAaron and Aaron’s sons, bNadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

Numbers 16:10-11

10and that he has brought you near him, and all your brothers the sons of Levi with you? And would you seek the priesthood also? 11Therefore it is against the Lord that you and all your company have gathered together. What is cAaron that you grumble against him?”

Numbers 17:3-10

3and write Aaron’s name on the staff of Levi. For there shall be one staff for the head of each fathershouse. 4Then you shall deposit them in the tent of meeting before the testimony, dwhere I meet with you. 5And the staff of the man ewhom I choose shall sprout. Thus I will make to cease from me fthe grumblings of the people of Israel, which they grumble against you.” 6Moses spoke to the people of Israel. And all their chiefs gave him staffs, one for each chief, according to their fathershouses, twelve staffs. And the staff of Aaron was among their staffs. 7And Moses deposited the staffs before the Lord in gthe tent of the testimony.

8On the next day Moses went into the tent of the testimony, and behold, the staff of Aaron for the house of Levi had sprouted and put forth buds and produced blossoms, and it bore ripe almonds. 9Then Moses brought out all the staffs from before the Lord to all the people of Israel. And they looked, and each man took his staff. 10And the Lord said to Moses, “Put back hthe staff of Aaron before the testimony, to be kept ias a sign for the rebels, jthat you may make an end of their grumblings against me, lest they die.”

Numbers 18:7

7And kyou and your sons with you shall guard your priesthood for all that concerns the altar and lthat is within the veil; and you shall serve. I give your priesthood as a gift,

and nany outsider who comes near shall be put to death.”

Numbers 18:21-26

21 o“To the Levites I have given every tithe in Israel for an inheritance, in return for their service that they do, their service in the tent of meeting, 22 pso that the people of Israel do not come near the tent of meeting, qlest they bear sin and die. 23But rthe Levites shall do the service of the tent of meeting, sand they shall bear their iniquity. It shall be a perpetual statute throughout your generations, and among the people of Israel they shall have no inheritance. 24For the tithe of the people of Israel, which tthey present as a contribution to the Lord, I have given to the Levites for an inheritance. Therefore I have said of them that they shall have no inheritance uamong the people of Israel.”

25And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 26“Moreover, you shall speak and say to the Levites, ‘When you take from the people of Israel the tithe that I have given you from them for your inheritance, then you shall present a contribution from it to the Lord, va tithe of the tithe.

Hebrews 5:4

4And wno one takes this honor for himself, but only when called by God, xjust as Aaron was.
