Exodus 3:11

11But Moses said to God, aWho am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?”

1 Samuel 9:20-22

20 bAs for your donkeys that were lost three days ago, do not set your mind on them, for they have been found. And for whom is all that is desirable in Israel? Is it not for you and for all your father’s house?” 21Saul answered, “Am I not a Benjaminite, cfrom the least of the tribes of Israel? dAnd is not my clan the humblest of all the clans of the tribe of Benjamin? Why then have you spoken to me in this way?”

22Then Samuel took Saul and his young man and brought them into the hall and gave them a place at the head of those who had been invited, who were about thirty persons.

1 Samuel 15:17

17And Samuel said, eThough you are little in your own eyes, are you not the head of the tribes of Israel? The Lord anointed you king over Israel.

1 Samuel 18:18-23

18And David said to Saul, fWho am I, and who are my relatives, my father’s clan in Israel, that I should be son-in-law to the king?” 19But at the time when Merab, Saul’s daughter, should have been given to David, she was given to gAdriel the hMeholathite for a wife.

20Now iSaul’s daughter Michal jloved David. And they told Saul, and the thing pleased him. 21Saul thought, “Let me give her to him, that she may kbe a snare for him land that the hand of the Philistines may be against him.” Therefore Saul said to David a second time,
Hebrew by two
n“You shall now be my son-in-law.”
22And Saul commanded his servants, “Speak to David in private and say, ‘Behold, the king has delight in you, and all his servants love you. Now then become the king’s son-in-law.’” 23And Saul’s servants spoke those words in the ears of David. And David said, o“Does it seem to you a little thing to become the king’s son-in-law, since I am a poor man and have no reputation?”

2 Samuel 7:8-17

8Now, therefore, thus you shall say to my servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, pI took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, that you should be prince
Or leader
over my people Israel.
9 rAnd I have been with you wherever you went and have cut off all your enemies from before you. And I will make for you a great name, like the name of the great ones of the earth. 10And I will appoint a place for my people Israel sand will plant them, so that they may dwell in their own place tand be disturbed no more. uAnd violent men shall afflict them no more, as formerly, 11 vfrom the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel. And wI will give you rest from all your enemies. Moreover, the Lord declares to you that xthe Lord will make you a house. 12 yWhen your days are fulfilled and zyou lie down with your fathers, aaI will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 abHe shall build a house for my name, and acI will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 adI will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. When he commits iniquity, aeI will discipline him with the rod of men, with the stripes of the sons of men, 15 afbut my steadfast love will not depart from him, agas I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you. 16 ahAnd your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me.
Septuagint; Hebrew you
ajYour throne shall be established forever.’”
17In accordance with all these words, and in accordance with all this vision, Nathan spoke to David.
