Exodus 32:10-12

10Now therefore alet me alone, that bmy wrath may burn hot against them and cI may consume them, in order that dI may make a great nation of you.”

11But eMoses implored the Lord his God and said, “O Lord, why does your wrath burn hot against your people, whom you have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand? 12 fWhy should the Egyptians say, ‘With evil intent did he bring them out, to kill them in the mountains and to consume them from the face of the earth’? Turn from your burning anger and grelent from this disaster against your people.

Numbers 14:10-23

10 hThen all the congregation said to stone them with stones. But ithe glory of the Lord appeared at the tent of meeting to all the people of Israel.

11And the Lord said to Moses, “How long will this people jdespise me? And how long will they not kbelieve in me, in spite of all the signs that I have done among them? 12I will strike them with the pestilence and disinherit them, and I lwill make of you a nation greater and mightier than they.”

Moses Intercedes for the People

13But mMoses said to the Lord, “Then the Egyptians will hear of it, for you brought up this people in your might from among them, 14and they will tell the inhabitants of this land. nThey have heard that you, O Lord, are in the midst of this people. For you, O Lord, are seen face to face, and oyour cloud stands over them and you go before them, in a pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night. 15Now if you kill this people as one man, then the nations who have heard your fame will say, 16‘It is because the Lord pwas not able to bring this people into the land that he swore to give to them that he has killed them in the wilderness.’ 17And now, please let the power of the Lord be great as you have promised, saying, 18 q‘The Lord is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, forgiving iniquity and transgression, but he will by no means clear the guilty, rvisiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, to the third and the fourth generation.’ 19Please spardon the iniquity of this people, according to the greatness of your steadfast love, just tas you have forgiven this people, from Egypt until now.”

God Promises Judgment

20Then the Lord said, “I have pardoned, uaccording to your word. 21But truly, as I live, and as all vthe earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord, 22 wnone of the men who have seen my glory and my signs that I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and yet have put me to the test these xten times and have not obeyed my voice, 23 yshall see the land that I swore to give to their fathers. And none of those who despised me shall see it.

Numbers 16:46-47

46And Moses said to Aaron, “Take your censer, and put fire on it from off the altar and lay incense on it and carry it quickly to the congregation and make atonement for them, for zwrath has gone out from the Lord; the plague has begun.” 47So Aaron took it as Moses said and ran into the midst of the assembly. And behold, the plague had already begun among the people. And he put on the incense and made atonement for the people.

2 Samuel 24:10-17

The Lord’s Judgment of David’s Sin

10But aaDavid’s heart struck him after he had numbered the people. And David said to the Lord, ab“I have sinned greatly in what I have done. But now, O Lord, please take away the iniquity of your servant, for I have done acvery foolishly.” 11And when David arose in the morning, the word of the Lord came to adthe prophet Gad, David’s aeseer, saying, 12Go and say to David, ‘Thus says the Lord, Three things I offer
Or hold over
you. Choose one of them, that I may do it to you.’”
13So Gad came to David and told him, and said to him, “Shall agthree

years of famine come to you in your land? Or will you flee three months before your foes while they pursue you? Or shall there be three dayspestilence in your land? Now consider, and decide what answer I shall return to him who sent me.”
14Then David said to Gad, “I am in great distress. Let us fall into the hand of the Lord, aifor his mercy is great; but let me not fall into the hand of man.”

15 ajSo the Lord sent a pestilence on Israel from the morning until the appointed time. And there died of the people from akDan to Beersheba 70,000 men. 16And when althe angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem amto destroy it, anthe Lord relented from the calamity and said to the angel aowho was working destruction among the people, “It is enough; now stay your hand.” And apthe angel of the Lord was by the threshing floor of aqAraunah the Jebusite. 17Then David spoke to the Lord when he saw the angel who was striking the people, and said, “Behold, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly. But these sheep, what have they done? Please let your hand be against me and against my father’s house.”
