Exodus 32:19-20

19 And as soon as he came near the camp and ^asaw the calf and the dancing, Moses’ anger burned hot, and he threw the tablets out of his hands and broke them at the foot of the mountain. 20 He took the calf that they had made and burned it with fire and ground it to powder and scattered it on the water and made the people of Israel drink it.

Numbers 25:6-11

6 And behold, one of the people of Israel came and brought a Midianite woman to his family, in the sight of Moses and in the sight of the whole congregation of the people of Israel, while they were ^bweeping in the entrance of the tent of meeting. 7 ^cWhen Phinehas ^dthe son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose and left the congregation and took a spear in his hand 8 and went after the man of Israel into the chamber and pierced both of them, the man of Israel and the woman through her belly. Thus the plague on the people of Israel was stopped. 9 Nevertheless, ^ethose who died by the plague were twenty-four thousand.

The Zeal of Phinehas

10 And the Lord said to Moses, 11 “Phinehas the son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, has turned back my wrath from the people of Israel, in that he ^fwas jealous with my jealousy among them, so that I did not consume the people of Israel in ^gmy jealousy.

1 Kings 19:10

10 He said, “I have been very ^hjealous for the Lord, the God of hosts. For the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, ⁱthrown down your altars, and ^jkilled your prophets with the sword, ^kand I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away.”
