Hebrew cast metal; also verse 8

Exodus 32:8

8They have turned aside quickly out of the way that dI commanded them. They have made for themselves a golden calf and have worshiped it and sacrificed to it and said, ‘These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!’”

Isaiah 40:19

19 eAn idol! A craftsman casts it,
and a goldsmith overlays it with gold
and casts for it silver chains.

Isaiah 41:6-7

6Everyone helps his neighbor
and says to his brother, “Be strong!”
7 fThe craftsman strengthens the goldsmith,
and he who smooths with the hammer him who strikes the anvil,
saying of the soldering, “It is good”;
and they strengthen it with nails gso that it cannot be moved.

Isaiah 46:6-7

6 hThose who lavish gold from the purse,
and weigh out silver in the scales,
hire a goldsmith, and he makes it into a god;
ithen they fall down and worship!
7 jThey lift it to their shoulders, they carry it,
they set it in its place, and it stands there;
kit cannot move from its place.
If one cries to it, it does not answer
or save him from his trouble.

Jeremiah 10:3-11

3 lfor the customs of the peoples are vanity.
Or vapor, or mist

nA tree from the forest is cut down
and worked with an axe by the hands of a craftsman.
4 oThey decorate it with silver and gold;
pthey fasten it with hammer and nails
so that it cannot move.
5Their idols
Hebrew They
are like scarecrows in a cucumber field,
and rthey cannot speak;
sthey have to be carried,
for they cannot walk.
Do not be afraid of them,
tfor they cannot do evil,
neither is it in them to do good.”
6 uThere is none like you, O Lord;
you are great, and your name is great in might.
7 vWho would not fear you, O King of the nations?
For this is your due;
for among all the wise ones of the nations
and in all their kingdoms
there is none like you.
8 wThey are both xstupid and foolish;
the instruction of idols is but wood!
9 yBeaten silver is brought from zTarshish,
and gold from aaUphaz.
abThey are the work of the craftsman and of the hands of the goldsmith;
their clothing is violet and purple;
acthey are all the work of skilled men.
10 adBut the Lord is the true God;
aehe is the living God and the everlasting King.
At his wrath the earth quakes,
and the nations cannot endure his indignation.
11Thus shall you say to them: af“The gods who did not make the heavens and the earth agshall perish from the earth and from under the heavens.”
