Exodus 8:18-19

18 The ^amagicians tried by their secret arts to produce gnats, but they could not. So there were gnats on man and beast. 19 Then the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is ^bthe finger of God.” But Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he would not listen to them, as the Lord had said.

Simon the Magician Believes

9 But there was a man named Simon, ^dwho had previously practiced magic in the city and amazed the people of Samaria, ^esaying that he himself was somebody great. 10 They all paid attention to him, from the least to the greatest, saying, ^f“This man is the power of God that is called ^gGreat.” 11 And they paid attention to him because for a long time he had ^hamazed them with his magic. 12 But when ⁱthey believed Philip as he preached good news ^jabout the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, ^kthey were baptized, both men and women. 13 Even Simon himself believed, and after being baptized he continued with Philip. And ^lseeing signs and ^mgreat miracles ^{▼▼Greek works of power} performed, ^ohe was amazed.

Acts 13:8-11

8 But Elymas the ^pmagician (for that is the meaning of his name) ^qopposed them, seeking to turn ^rthe proconsul away from the faith. 9 But Saul, who was also called Paul, ^sfilled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him 10 and said, “You ^tson of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, full of all deceit and ^uvillainy, will you not stop ^vmaking crooked ^wthe straight paths of the Lord? 11 And now, behold, ^xthe hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and unable to see the sun for a time.” Immediately mist and darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking ^ypeople to lead him by the hand.
