Prophecy Against Edom

12Thus says the Lord God: Because aEdom acted revengefully against the house of Judah and has grievously offended bin taking vengeance on them, 13therefore thus says the Lord God, cI will stretch out my hand against Edom and cut off from it man and beast. And I will make it desolate; from dTeman even to eDedan they shall fall by the sword. 14And I will lay my vengeance upon Edom fby the hand of my people Israel, and they shall do in Edom according to my anger and according to my wrath, and gthey shall know my vengeance, declares the Lord God.

Ezekiel 35

Prophecy Against Mount Seir

1The word of the Lord came to me: 2 jSon of man, kset your face lagainst mMount Seir, and prophesy against it, 3and say to it, Thus says the Lord God: nBehold, I am against you, Mount Seir, and oI will stretch out my hand against you, pand I will make you a desolation and a waste. 4 qI will lay your cities waste, and you shall become a desolation, and you shall know that I am the Lord. 5Because ryou cherished perpetual enmity and gave over the people of Israel to the power of the sword sat the time of their calamity, tat the time of their final punishment, 6therefore, uas I live, declares the Lord God, I will prepare you for blood, and blood shall pursue you; vbecause you did not hate bloodshed, therefore blood shall pursue you. 7 wI will make Mount Seir a waste xand a desolation, and I will cut off from it yall who come and go. 8And I will fill zits mountains with the slain. On your hills and in your valleys and in all aayour ravines abthose slain with the sword shall fall. 9 acI will make you a perpetual desolation, and adyour cities shall not be inhabited. Then aeyou will know that I am the Lord.

10Because you said, af‘These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and agwe will take possession of them’—although the ahLord was there 11therefore, aias I live, declares the Lord God, I will deal with you ajaccording to the anger and akenvy that you showed because of your hatred against them. And alI will make myself known among them, when I judge you. 12And you shall know that I am the Lord.

am“I have heard all the revilings that you uttered against the mountains of Israel, saying, ‘They are laid desolate; anthey are given us to devour.’
13And aoyou magnified yourselves against me apwith your mouth, and multiplied your words against me; I heard it. 14Thus says the Lord God: aqWhile the whole earth rejoices, I will make you desolate. 15As you arrejoiced over the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so I will deal with you; you shall be desolate, asMount Seir, and all Edom, all of it. Then atthey will know that I am the Lord.

Amos 1:11-12

11Thus says the Lord:

au“For three transgressions of avEdom,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
awbecause he pursued his brother with the sword
axand cast off all pity,
ayand his anger tore perpetually,
azand he kept his wrath forever.
12So I will send a fire upon baTeman,
and it shall devour the strongholds of bbBozrah.”

Edom Will Be Humbled

Thus says the Lord God bcconcerning Edom:
bdWe have heard a report from the Lord,
and a messenger has been sent among the nations:
Rise up! Let us rise against her for battle!”
2Behold, I will make you small among the nations;
you shall be utterly despised.
Or  Behold, I have made you small among the nations; you are utterly despised

3 bfThe pride of your heart has deceived you,
you who live in the clefts of the rock,
Or Sela

in your lofty dwelling,
bhwho say in your heart,
Who will bring me down to the ground?”
4Though you soar aloft like the eagle,
though your nest is set among the stars,
from there I will bring you down,

declares the Lord.
5 If bithieves came to you,
if plunderers came by night
how you have been destroyed!—
would they not steal only enough for themselves?
If bjgrape gatherers came to you,
would they not leave gleanings?
6 bkHow Esau has been pillaged,
his treasures sought out!
7All your allies have driven you to your border;
those at peace with you have deceived you;
they have prevailed against you;
blthose who eat your bread
Hebrew lacks  those who eat
have set a trap beneath you—
bnyou have
Hebrew he has
no understanding.
8 bpWill I not on that day, declares the Lord,
destroy the wise men out of Edom,
and understanding out of bqMount Esau?
9And your mighty men shall be dismayed, brO Teman,
so that every man from bsMount Esau will be cut off by slaughter.

Edom’s Violence Against Jacob

10 btBecause of the violence done to your brother Jacob,
shame shall cover you,
buand you shall be cut off forever.
11 bvOn the day that you stood aloof,
bwon the day that strangers carried off his wealth
and foreigners entered his gates
bxand cast lots for Jerusalem,
you were like one of them.
12 byBut do not gloat over the day of your brother
in the day of his misfortune;
bzdo not rejoice over the people of Judah
in the day of their ruin;
cado not boast
Hebrew  do not enlarge your mouth

in the day of distress.
13 ccDo not enter the gate of my people
in the day of their calamity;
cddo not gloat over his disaster
in the day of his calamity;
cedo not loot his wealth
in the day of his calamity.
14 cfDo not stand at the crossroads
to cut off his fugitives;
do not hand over his survivors
in the day of distress.

The Day of the Lord Is Near

15 For cgthe day of the Lord is near upon all the nations.
chAs you have done, it shall be done to you;
your deeds shall return on your own head.
16 ciFor as you have drunk on cjmy holy mountain,
so all the nations shall drink continually;
they shall drink and swallow,
and shall be as though they had never been.

Obadiah 18

18 ckThe house of Jacob shall be a fire,
and the house of Joseph a flame,
and the house of Esau clstubble;
they shall burn them and consume them,
cmand there shall be no survivor for the house of Esau,

for the Lord has spoken.

Malachi 1:2-4

The Lord’s Love for Israel

2 cn“I have loved you,” says the Lord. coBut you say, “How have you loved us?” “Is not Esau cpJacob’s brother?” declares the Lord. “Yet cqI have loved Jacob 3but Esau I have hated. crI have laid waste his hill country and left his heritage to jackals of the desert.” 4If Edom says, “We are shattered but we will rebuild the ruins,” the Lord of hosts says, “They may build, but I will tear down, and they will be called ‘the wicked country,’ and ‘the people with whom the Lord is angry forever.’”
