Ezekiel 35

Prophecy Against Mount Seir

1The word of the Lord came to me: 2 aSon of man, bset your face cagainst dMount Seir, and prophesy against it, 3and say to it, Thus says the Lord God: eBehold, I am against you, Mount Seir, and fI will stretch out my hand against you, gand I will make you a desolation and a waste. 4 hI will lay your cities waste, and you shall become a desolation, and you shall know that I am the Lord. 5Because iyou cherished perpetual enmity and gave over the people of Israel to the power of the sword jat the time of their calamity, kat the time of their final punishment, 6therefore, las I live, declares the Lord God, I will prepare you for blood, and blood shall pursue you; mbecause you did not hate bloodshed, therefore blood shall pursue you. 7 nI will make Mount Seir a waste oand a desolation, and I will cut off from it pall who come and go. 8And I will fill qits mountains with the slain. On your hills and in your valleys and in all ryour ravines sthose slain with the sword shall fall. 9 tI will make you a perpetual desolation, and uyour cities shall not be inhabited. Then vyou will know that I am the Lord.

10Because you said, w‘These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and xwe will take possession of them’—although the yLord was there 11therefore, zas I live, declares the Lord God, I will deal with you aaaccording to the anger and abenvy that you showed because of your hatred against them. And acI will make myself known among them, when I judge you. 12And you shall know that I am the Lord.

ad“I have heard all the revilings that you uttered against the mountains of Israel, saying, ‘They are laid desolate; aethey are given us to devour.’
13And afyou magnified yourselves against me agwith your mouth, and multiplied your words against me; I heard it. 14Thus says the Lord God: ahWhile the whole earth rejoices, I will make you desolate. 15As you airejoiced over the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so I will deal with you; you shall be desolate, ajMount Seir, and all Edom, all of it. Then akthey will know that I am the Lord.

Joel 3:19

19 alEgypt shall become a desolation
and amEdom a desolate wilderness,
anfor the violence done to the people of Judah,
because they have shed innocent blood in their land.

Amos 1:6

6Thus says the Lord:

ao“For three transgressions of apGaza,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
because aqthey carried into exile a whole people
to deliver them up to Edom.

Amos 1:11-12

11Thus says the Lord:

ar“For three transgressions of asEdom,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
atbecause he pursued his brother with the sword
auand cast off all pity,
avand his anger tore perpetually,
awand he kept his wrath forever.
12So I will send a fire upon axTeman,
and it shall devour the strongholds of ayBozrah.”

Edom Will Be Humbled

Thus says the Lord God azconcerning Edom:
baWe have heard a report from the Lord,
and a messenger has been sent among the nations:
Rise up! Let us rise against her for battle!”
2Behold, I will make you small among the nations;
you shall be utterly despised.
Or  Behold, I have made you small among the nations; you are utterly despised

3 bcThe pride of your heart has deceived you,
you who live in the clefts of the rock,
Or Sela

in your lofty dwelling,
bewho say in your heart,
Who will bring me down to the ground?”
4Though you soar aloft like the eagle,
though your nest is set among the stars,
from there I will bring you down,

declares the Lord.
5 If bfthieves came to you,
if plunderers came by night
how you have been destroyed!—
would they not steal only enough for themselves?
If bggrape gatherers came to you,
would they not leave gleanings?
6 bhHow Esau has been pillaged,
his treasures sought out!
7All your allies have driven you to your border;
those at peace with you have deceived you;
they have prevailed against you;
bithose who eat your bread
Hebrew lacks  those who eat
have set a trap beneath you—
bkyou have
Hebrew he has
no understanding.
8 bmWill I not on that day, declares the Lord,
destroy the wise men out of Edom,
and understanding out of bnMount Esau?
9And your mighty men shall be dismayed, boO Teman,
so that every man from bpMount Esau will be cut off by slaughter.

Edom’s Violence Against Jacob

10 bqBecause of the violence done to your brother Jacob,
shame shall cover you,
brand you shall be cut off forever.
11 bsOn the day that you stood aloof,
bton the day that strangers carried off his wealth
and foreigners entered his gates
buand cast lots for Jerusalem,
you were like one of them.
12 bvBut do not gloat over the day of your brother
in the day of his misfortune;
bwdo not rejoice over the people of Judah
in the day of their ruin;
bxdo not boast
Hebrew  do not enlarge your mouth

in the day of distress.
13 bzDo not enter the gate of my people
in the day of their calamity;
cado not gloat over his disaster
in the day of his calamity;
cbdo not loot his wealth
in the day of his calamity.
14 ccDo not stand at the crossroads
to cut off his fugitives;
do not hand over his survivors
in the day of distress.

The Day of the Lord Is Near

15 For cdthe day of the Lord is near upon all the nations.
ceAs you have done, it shall be done to you;
your deeds shall return on your own head.
16 cfFor as you have drunk on cgmy holy mountain,
so all the nations shall drink continually;
they shall drink and swallow,
and shall be as though they had never been.

Malachi 1:2-4

The Lord’s Love for Israel

2 ch“I have loved you,” says the Lord. ciBut you say, “How have you loved us?” “Is not Esau cjJacob’s brother?” declares the Lord. “Yet ckI have loved Jacob 3but Esau I have hated. clI have laid waste his hill country and left his heritage to jackals of the desert.” 4If Edom says, “We are shattered but we will rebuild the ruins,” the Lord of hosts says, “They may build, but I will tear down, and they will be called ‘the wicked country,’ and ‘the people with whom the Lord is angry forever.’”
