6saying:

“O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift my face to you, my God, for our iniquities ahave risen higher than our heads, and our bguilt has cmounted up to the heavens.

Isaiah 1:4

4 Ah, sinful nation,
a people laden with iniquity,
doffspring of evildoers,
children who deal corruptly!
They have forsaken the Lord,
they have edespised fthe Holy One of Israel,
they are utterly gestranged.

Jeremiah 3:2

2Lift up your eyes to hthe bare heights, and see!
Where have you not been ravished?
iBy the waysides you have sat awaiting lovers
like an Arab in the wilderness.
jYou have polluted the land
with your vile whoredom.

Jeremiah 5:3-9

3O Lord, do not your eyes look for truth?
kYou have struck them down,
but they felt no anguish;
you have consumed them,
but they refused to take correction.
lThey have made their faces harder than rock;
they have refused to repent.
4 Then I said, “These are only the poor;
they have no sense;
mfor they do not know the way of the Lord,
the justice of their God.
5I will go to the great
and will speak to them,
for they know the way of the Lord,
the justice of their God.”
nBut they all alike had broken the yoke;
they had burst the bonds.
6 Therefore oa lion from the forest shall strike them down;
a pwolf from the desert shall devastate them.
qA leopard is watching their cities;
everyone who goes out of them shall be torn in pieces,
because their transgressions are many,
their rapostasies are great.
7 sHow can I pardon you?
Your children have forsaken me
tand have sworn by those who are no gods.
uWhen I fed them to the full,
vthey committed adultery
wand trooped to the houses of whores.
8They were well-fed, lusty stallions,
xeach neighing yfor his neighbor’s wife.
9 zShall I not punish them for these things?

declares the Lord;
and shall I not avenge myself
on a nation such as this?

Jeremiah 5:25-29

25 aaYour iniquities have turned these away,
and your sins have kept good from you.
26For wicked men are found among my people;
abthey lurk like fowlers lying in wait.
The meaning of the Hebrew is uncertain

adThey set a trap;
they catch men.
27Like a cage full of birds,
their houses are full of deceit;
therefore they have become great and rich;
28 aethey have grown fat and sleek.
They know no bounds in deeds of evil;
afthey judge not with justice
the cause of the fatherless, to make it prosper,
and they do not defend the rights of the needy.
29 agShall I not punish them for these things?

declares the Lord,
and shall I not avenge myself
on a nation such as this?”

Jeremiah 7:8-10

8Behold, you trust in deceptive words to no avail. 9 ahWill you steal, murder, commit adultery, aiswear falsely, ajmake offerings to Baal, akand go after other gods that you have not known, 10and then come and stand before me in this house, alwhich is called by my name, and say, ‘We are delivered!’—only to go on doing all these abominations?

Ezekiel 5:6

6And she has rebelled against my rules by doing wickedness ammore than the nations, and against my statutes more than anthe countries all around her; for they have rejected my rules and have not walked in my statutes.

Ezekiel 7:23

23 aoForge a chain!
Probably refers to an instrument of captivity
aqFor the land is full of bloody crimes arand the city is full of violence.

Ezekiel 8:8-16

8Then he said to me, “Son of man, asdig in the wall.” So I dug in the wall, and behold, there was an entrance. 9And he said to me, “Go in, and see atthe vile abominations that they are committing here.” 10So I went in and saw. And there, auengraved on the wall all around, was avevery form of awcreeping things and loathsome beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel. 11And before them stood axseventy men of aythe elders of the house of Israel, with Jaazaniah the son of azShaphan standing among them. Each had his censer in his hand, and bathe smoke of the cloud of incense went up. 12Then he said to me, “Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing bbin the dark, each bcin his room of pictures? For they say, bd‘The Lord does not see us, the Lord has forsaken the land.’” 13He said also to me, be“You will see still greater abominations that they commit.”

14Then he brought me to bfthe entrance of the north gate of the house of the Lord, and behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz. 15Then he said to me, “Have you seen this, O bgson of man? bhYou will see still greater abominations than these.”

16And he brought me into bithe inner court of the house of the Lord. And behold, at the entrance of the temple of the Lord, bjbetween the bkporch and blthe altar, were about twenty-five men, bmwith their backs to the temple of the Lord, and their faces toward the east, worshiping bnthe sun toward the east.
