Galatians 3:15-21

The Law and the Promise

15 aTo give a human example, brothers:
Or  brothers and sisters
ceven with a man-made covenant, no one annuls it or adds to it once it has been ratified.
16Now dthe promises were made eto Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say, “And to offsprings,” referring to many, but referring to one, fAnd to your offspring,” who is Christ. 17This is what I mean: the law, which came g430 years afterward, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as hto make the promise void. 18For if the inheritance comes by the law, it no longer comes by promise; but iGod gave it to Abraham by a promise.

19Why then the law? jIt was added because of transgressions, kuntil the offspring should come to whom the promise had been made, and it was lput in place through angels mby an intermediary. 20Now nan intermediary implies more than one, but oGod is one.

21Is the law then contrary to the promises of God? Certainly not! For pif a law had been given that could give life, then righteousness would indeed be by the law.

Hebrews 7:22

22This makes Jesus the guarantor of qa better covenant.

Hebrews 8:6-13

6But as it is, Christ
Greek he
has obtained a ministry that is sas much more excellent than the old as tthe covenant uhe mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises.
7 vFor if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion to look for a second.

8For he finds fault with them when he says:
Some manuscripts  For finding fault with it he says to them

xBehold, the days are coming, declares the Lord,
when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel
and with the house of Judah,
9not like the covenant that I made with their fathers
on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt.
For they did not continue in my covenant,
and so I showed no concern for them, declares the Lord.
10 yFor this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel
after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws into their minds,
and zwrite them on their hearts,
and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people.
11And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor
and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’
for they shall aaall know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
12For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
aband I will remember their sins no more.”
13In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And acwhat is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

Hebrews 9:15-24

15Therefore he is adthe mediator of a new covenant, so that aethose who are called may afreceive the promised eternal inheritance, agsince a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.
The Greek word means both  covenant and will; also verses 16, 17
16For where a will is involved, the death of the one who made it must be established. 17For aia will takes effect only at death, since it is not in force as long as the one who made it is alive. 18Therefore not even the first covenant was inaugurated ajwithout blood. 19For when every commandment of the law had been declared by Moses to all the people, he took akthe blood of calves and goats, alwith water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, 20saying, amThis is the blood of the covenant that God commanded for you.” 21And in the same way he sprinkled with the blood both anthe tent and all the vessels used in worship. 22Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and aowithout the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.

23Thus it was necessary for apthe copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these rites, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24For Christ has entered, not into holy places aqmade with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God aron our behalf.

Hebrews 10:15-18

15And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying,

16 asThis is the covenant that I will make with them
after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws on their hearts,
and write them on their minds,”
17then he adds,

at“I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.”
18Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.

Hebrews 12:24

24and to Jesus, authe mediator of a new covenant, and to avthe sprinkled blood awthat speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

Hebrews 13:20

Benediction

20Now axmay the God of peace aywho brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, azthe great shepherd of the sheep, by bathe blood of the eternal covenant,
