Genesis 12:6-7

6 Abram ^apassed through the land to the place at Shechem, to ^bthe oak ^{▼▼Or terebinth} of ^dMoreh. At that time ^ethe Canaanites were in the land. 7 Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, ^f“To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built there an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him.

Genesis 33:18-20

18 And Jacob came safely ^{▼▼Or peacefully} to the city of ^hShechem, which is in the land of Canaan, on his way from Paddan-aram, and he camped before the city. 19 And from the sons of ⁱHamor, Shechem’s father, ^jhe bought for a hundred pieces of money ^{▼▼Hebrew a hundred qesitah; a unit of money of unknown value} the piece of land on which he had pitched his tent. 20 There he erected an altar and called it El-Elohe-Israel. ^{▼▼ El-Elohe-Israel means God, the God of Israel}

Joshua 8:33-35

33 And all Israel, ⁿsojourner as well as native born, with their elders and officers and their judges, stood on opposite sides of the ark before the Levitical priests ^owho carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, half of them in front of Mount Gerizim and half of them in front of Mount Ebal, ^pjust as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded at the first, to bless the people of Israel. 34 And afterward ^qhe read all the words of the law, ^rthe blessing and the curse, according to all that is written in the Book of the Law. 35 There was not a word of all that Moses commanded that Joshua did not read before all the assembly of Israel, ^sand the women, and the little ones, and ^tthe sojourners who lived ^{▼▼Or traveled} among them.

Judges 9:6-7

6 And all the leaders of Shechem came together, and all ^vBeth-millo, and they went and made Abimelech king, by the oak of the pillar at Shechem.

7 When it was told to Jotham, he went and stood on top of ^wMount Gerizim and cried aloud and said to them, “Listen to me, you leaders of Shechem, that God may listen to you.

2 Kings 17:26-33

26 So the king of Assyria was told, “The nations that you have carried away and placed in the cities of Samaria do not know the law of the god of the land. Therefore he has sent lions among them, and behold, they are killing them, because they do not know the law of the god of the land.” 27 Then the king of Assyria commanded, “Send there one of the priests whom you carried away from there, and let him ^{▼▼Syriac, Vulgate; Hebrew them} go and dwell there and teach them the law of the god of the land.” 28 So one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and lived in ^yBethel and taught them how they should fear the Lord.

29 But every nation still made gods of its own and put them ^zin the shrines of the high places that the Samaritans had made, every nation in the cities in which they lived. 30 The men of ^aaBabylon made Succoth-benoth, the men of Cuth made Nergal, the men of Hamath made Ashima, 31 and the Avvites made Nibhaz and Tartak; and the Sepharvites ^abburned their children in the fire to ^acAdrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of ^adSepharvaim. 32 ^aeThey also feared the Lord ^afand appointed from among themselves all sorts of people as priests of the high places, who sacrificed for them in the shrines of ^agthe high places. 33 So they feared the Lord but also served their own gods, after the manner of the nations from among whom they had been carried away.
