 Israel means He strives with God, or God strives
for syou have striven with God and twith men, and have prevailed.”
29Then Jacob asked him, “Please tell me your name.” But he said, uWhy is it that you ask my name?” And there he blessed him. 30So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel,
 Peniel means the face of God
saying, “For wI have seen God face to face, and yet my life has been delivered.”

Genesis 35:1

God Blesses and Renames Jacob

1God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to xBethel and dwell there. Make an altar there to the God who appeared to you ywhen you fled from your brother Esau.”

Genesis 46:2-3
