Abram and Lot Separate

1So Abram went up from Egypt, he and his wife and all that he had, and Lot with him, ainto the Negeb.

2 bNow Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold. 3And he journeyed on from the Negeb as far as Bethel to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai, 4to cthe place where he had made an altar at the first. And there Abram called upon the name of the Lord. 5And Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents,

Job 1:3

3He possessed 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen, and 500 female donkeys, and very many servants, so that this man was the greatest of all dthe people of the east.

6Surely a man egoes about as a shadow!

The Parable of the Rich Fool

13 hSomeone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” 14But he said to him, iMan, jwho made me a judge or arbitrator over you?” 15And he said to them, k“Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” 16And he told them a parable, saying, l“The land of a rich man produced plentifully, 17and he thought to himself, mWhat shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ 18And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my nbarns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up ofor many years; relax, peat, drink, be merry.”’ 20But God said to him, qFool! rThis night syour soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, twhose will they be?’ 21So is the one uwho lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”
