Judah Defeated
5 dTherefore the Lord his God gave him into the hand of the king of Syria, who defeated him and took captive a great number of his people and brought them to Damascus. He was also given into the hand of the king of Israel, who struck him with great force.2 Chronicles 28:23
23For ehe sacrificed to the gods of Damascus that had defeated him and said, f“Because the gods of the kings of Syria helped them, I will sacrifice to them that they may help me.” But they were the ruin of him and of all Israel.Isaiah 7:8

Judgment on Damascus
23Concerning hDamascus:i“Hamath and jArpad are confounded,
for they have heard bad news;
they melt in fear,
kthey are troubled like the sea that cannot be quiet.
24 lDamascus has become feeble, mshe turned to flee,
and panic seized her;
anguish and sorrows have taken hold of her,
as nof a woman in labor.
25How is othe famous city not forsaken,
the city of my joy?
26 pTherefore her young men shall fall in her squares,
and all her soldiers shall be destroyed in that day,
declares the Lord of hosts.
27And qI will kindle a fire in the wall of rDamascus,
and it shall devour the strongholds of sBen-hadad.”
